Does Bass Pro Shops ever honor a warranty?

Post by acm95301 »

So I brought in my Stock Motorguide troling motor that broke in the first couple hours of the CBC tournament, and being only 5 months old, I kinda expected a cheerful resolution.

So Britany called said The cable was bent and that caused the break so Its not under warranty....Aka "Its your own fault". ITs gonna cost me 55 dollars to have them fix it and they need to order parts...so I need wait til next week to get a repair.

Now the only thing I ever did to my trolling motor was to install a recessed foot pedal box. And that was something like 3 months ago.

I am Sooooo getting tired of dealing with these guys.

So far: a recalled tire that took months to replace
damaged pinstripe decal on delivery
rigging error that had the speedometer not hooked up
unlubed front wheel "jack"
The rubrail is made of soft rubber that shreds everytime it touches something.
poorly installed rug and nearly non-existant rug glue.

And thats just the list I can think of in this brief rant.

40 minute drive back and forth..over and over again....Grrr.

That's garbage. Have you tried calling Motorguide? Maybe they will back you up better.

Thanks for the responses guys.

This was the Manteca, BPS.

Yes, cables break.....But I got nearly 8 years out of my last one and only needed to replace the prop (my fault) once. So I guess my expectations to get more than 5 months out of my TM were pretty high. Also, It is a bit embarassing to have it happen at a tournament, and annoying that I have to wait more than a week to have it repaired.

Writing BPS, Motorguide, and hell the guys who make the recessed foot pedal may yield results...I'll give that a try.

MY FIRST ISSUE, I CALLED MOTORGUIDE, THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR, MY SECOND ISSUE, I CALLED GENE AT THE HOOK, HE REPAIRED IT NO QUESTIONS. I WOULD NOT EVEN TRY TO DEAL WITH BPS, JUST MY EXPERIENCE.

Just recieved a phone call from Britney at BPS, apparently Motorguide has steped up and offered to cover the issue.

Nobody has said this, but I suspect that somebody on WB that maybe a motorguide guy, must have stepped in and came to my rescue, if thats the case Thanks.....

as far as BPS goes, They are on notice with me....I am a "BIG" (not just waistline) custumer and I'm stuck in the warranty period for a while, but Once clear of that I'd rather go to C and C marine or the Hook and have better ....just better.

I know this rant was all about 55 bucks....which isn't even gas money some days...Its justs I have a fairly high expectation of service...If I buy something and don't screw it up myself (yeah I screw up alot) I expect it to work , at least for a while.

I totally agree. It's not about the money, it's the principal. BPS should stand behind what they sell, and make it right. They (especially) have pull with any of the manufactures they sell and can more than likely recoup any temporary loss.

I just bought a new outboard for my ranger from the bass pro shops in Vegas. They told me if I bought it over the internet that I would not have to pay slaes tax, so I bought it, cash money and as soon as they get the certified check the salesman tells me that I will need to pay over 600 bucks in nevada sales tax before they would ship it and asked if he could just charge it to my credit card. A bunch of lying crooks, and they can't even give me a ship date to the manteca store, so after several attemps to get an answer from someone, there answer was oh about one to two weeks. Horrible customer service and I'm never shopping there again. Big cooporations don't give a damn about their cutomers, so screw them.

Call Tracker Marine in Springfield MO not BPS. They are actually two different companies. I used to deal with a guy named Jeff there. He took care of several problems on my Nitro until I finally unloaded it.

This just goes to show you guys who buy from bps or the other big corps that it does'nt pay to shop there. In these tough times we need to support are local shops, anglers marine, c and c marine, just to name a few, They are the best and if we don't support them they might not make it threw these rough times. "cooks" lol. For the record, buying things out of state and not being charged tax and then not reporting it is, well, not legal. Your supposed to report it to the State. Of course, 99.9% or more don't report it. We're ALL crooks :)

There are signs that things will start to change though. Decent chance that in the future, when you purchase something over the internet, they will have to collect tax for the State that the item is shipped, or some form or another. I know a lot of small business owners that should be over joyed about this. We are losing our local shops in this country, whether it be fishing tackle, or photography stores. It is hard for a "mom and pop" shop to compete with both lower prices AND "tax free".
All these experiences we are hearing about BPS, well once all of our local shops dry up, that's all we will have left to experience. Seems like this country was built on the backs of small business and has shifted to the polar opposite. Oops, I'll get off my soap box.

P.S. I understand price shopping, don't get me wrong.

I just bought a new spinning reel at C & C. When I got home the BPS spring fever whatever sale bill was in the mail, the same reel was the same price I just paid, some sale. Support your local shop.

I bought my first boat, a Tracker 175, from Anglers Marine in Anaheim.
When the hull cracked twice in the first year+, Rick and Jordan stood behind me and got me a new hull.
Class act, all of the Anglers people, including Cindy, who keeps Rick in line.
And Rick only brings in boats that meet CA regulations, and will be totally fishable, not the 25hp Trackers that BPS dumps on first time buyers, who don't know any better.
He, and, I'm sure, his counterparts up north, live by repeat business, and gives a damn about his customers.
