Domo Arigato Mr. Namiki and KVD........WWN#6

Post by Fast Eddie »

Before we get into what happened, I'd like to bring up a reminder to all those fishing WWN, please make sure your vessel is in tip top shape especially "the Live Wells". If you live wells are having trouble in this heat please help the fish and stay home. But I get the "arrogance" of some, that it doesn't matter. Again that is all I have to say about that!
who it was who put them out
So Sat. was the wifeys birthday so I bought her a sun hoodie from the Bass Hole and a PINK Rico. (I remember when pink worms came out during the green weenie days which by the way are still great baits, but we called them transvestites. Can't remember when it changed to morning dawn. Heck can't remember, think it was Magic Worms) So after doing a little research I find that pink hard baits or variations of pink have been out for awhile. (Shouda known better when a few weeks ago Yellow Snow shows up with a pink frog he made , man that rock I've been under is heavy.
Anyway, she was happy and we went to test it out on Monday, figuring I'd be doing a little pre fishing. Would've worked out great, but I forgot her rod  opps! Oh well I can now check out some of the new Japanese baits I bought this week. Tie one on and to my surprise, Fish after fish after fish. This is impressive. Josh turned me on to them a few weeks back, but because it was a custom color couldn't find it even in Japan. (NO I DIDN'T FLY TO JAPAN! You think I'm nuts  ) Now Josh is one of those guys who no matter what or with what catches fish. He reminds me of my old friend Gary Haraguchi, who used to be Jimmy Reese's non boater. Jimmy and I were talking one time and Gary had caught a fish with Jimmy that had a pretty tired old worm in its mouth. Gary takes the worm out and tell Jimmy he's fishing with it. Gary then proceed to catch 3 more fish using that worm. Well that's Josh, it's like no matter what bait he picks up he's catching fish, and so yesterday at WWN #6 was no exception.
After my usual routine of stops at the Bass Hole and Taqueria for a shredded beef burrito, I head to Ladds where Josh is waiting. I show him all the baits and were Off. Within the first 5 minutes, Josh hooks a 3+, but it comes unbuttoned when it dives under the boat.(the one bad thing about these Japanese baits, is the hooks aren't sticky unless its a dink, then all the hooks bite  ) Next after a few dinks we get a 1 1/2lbr. Then Josh gets a 5, then a few minutes later he gets a 4, then a 2.9 and a 2.15 then while Josh is doing what we call surgery, I get a 4 (3.15actually) I tie into another 4. It's 5 pm and we've got 19.1. Now I'll digress a bit, as we were throwing our baits on the outside edge in about 6-8 ft of water with grass, when Josh starts throwing a shallow strike king bait and catching fish after fish. Pretty sure it was a KVD. Didn't take me long to figure a shallow crankbait was working and away we went. All told though we couldn't catch that one 3 to put us over the top.
Congrats to Mike and Firuz for 21.59, Caleb and Pops with 20.39 and a 8.39 kicker (can't wait for the video :D ) and me and Josh in 3rd with 19.68. Now get this it took 17.50 to get paid, with 58 boats.

Interesting stat both 1st and 2nd had big fish 8.39 and 7.89. We had no big fish but a solid weight. Can't wait until next week to see if we can back it up again.

Congrats on your high finish. We were out there Tuesday and they were hitting the red squarebill real well, albeit no seven or eight pounders.
