Drying boat Carpet

Post by duckhuntr07 »

I fished most of the day on Sat and soaked the boat. How do you guys dry your boats when the carpet gets soaked.

My garage is starting to smell pretty musty.

Slop up most of the water with rags, then put a fan on it.

I run two big fans directly on the boat carpet and this typically drys it up. A shot vac will pick up any standing water.

But the fans work best for me :)

Another thing I do, is open all the compartment lids, the water drains off pretty quick that way. Also its good to air out the lockers and such. Flip up seats and wipe those down, and leave them up to drain/dry.

Shop vac and a Blue Blower constuction fan.

I was going to mention it would probably be better to use a vacuum that worked rather than one that was shot, but to each his own..

Soak up as much water with a bath towell as you can off the carpet and all storage compartments. leave them open and get a reciprocating fan and turn it on and put the cover on it. use that method at night and take the cover off during the day and go fishing in dry weather asap. you will find towing your boat in the next day or two in dry weather acts as a good dryer and you also get to fish. :) works for me

Don't forget to jack up the trailer and pull your drain plug out. There should be alot of water still in the bilge.

If you can install two cieling fans over your boat in the garage, one on the front deck one on the back. When you get home turn on the fans and let them blow down on the boat. Just be careful when getting into the boat to open up the lockers that the fans are OFF> Trust me on that!!

I have one over the back and it wroked great but the bow stayed wet until I put the portable fans on it.

Bilge is fine, checked it as soon as I got home.

Time to get out there again, told the wife "I gotta go to dry out the boat"......worked like a charm.

Anyone know where to get some artificial musty/moldy scent to spray in the garage? :)

I pull up as much as I can off the decks and floor with a shop vac then open up the lockers to let what ever I missed drain off and then go around the edges of the lids and lid channels and seats with one of those super absorbant cloths.....the wal-mart version of the SHAMWOW! raise up the front of the boat to let out what ever water didnt drain (or fell in) on the way home outta there set up a fan.

I believe that musty scent is coming from the SHAME your livewells have been feeling lately. And don't say your gonna go out cause I know your gonna be killin' something from a duck blind even if it's just a bottle. JK. We gonna hit it up this weekend? Hopefully get my reels back from Dan but you never know about the mail. What a thread how to dry your boat....I guess mine is always wet from my mutt Tulle.

Shame and embarassement, why you gotta rub it in?

Those live wells are lonely lately. I met a great guy in 14 mile slough on Sat that borrowed my scale to weigh a donkey. That hurt after catching rats all day.

This weekend is ducks on Sat and pig hunting on Sun. Can you play hookey one day next week?

If your looking for the moldy and musty smell for the garage just put that bath towell you used to mop up all your storage compartments and carpet and put it in a bag and seal it up. wait for a week and cut the bag open about 4 inches and find a corner with some stuff and hide it. Should smell up the garage for a few trips out. Just remember not to tell the wife where her bath towell is untill you get back from the lake. :)
