Father and son come from behind to win Coors Light AOY title

Postby AnglersPress » Mon Oct 22, 2018 6:41 pm

The 2018 Coors Light Future Pro Tour season came to a dramatic conclusion last Saturday as northern region teams vying for one of only 55 berths available in the upcoming 2018 FPT Classic Championship, were met with flat calm water as well as a flat calm bite. The lake’s water levels were as low as ever, making it very difficult for teams to locate quality fish, as indicated by the fact that only 8 pounds was required to make it into the top ten, and cash a check.

But the team of Osborn and Robertson, came out on top sticking with their game plan of throwing top water - all day long, to land a modest 5-fish limit weighing 11.64 pounds – which included a 5.45-pound kicker, and big bass of the event. For the win they received $2,670 dollars and 2 custom trophies.

Waiting "in the Cut"

2016 FPT Classic Champions - and heavy favorites Austin Cunningham and Joe Cunningham, went into this final event 16 points ahead of tough hard-core competitors Mike Coelho and Mark Seaters, hoping to join the fraternity of only a select few, that have ever achieved the Coors Light Future Pro Tour’s “Triple Crown” – a regular season win, a Classic Championship win, and an Angler of the Year title.

But it was not to be as, “waiting in the cut”, and a full 26 points behind the AOY leaders, was father and son team Kevin and Kirby Wallace, perennial favorites, and former small boat division Anglers of the Year.

Avid duck hunters, they decided at the last moment to forego a scheduled hunt, to fish in this final event, which turned out to be a very good decision on their part.

A big congratulations Kevin and Kirby – 2018 Coors Light Silver Bullet Anglers of the Year!

What a fantastic end to a terrific season!

We would like to thank all anglers that participated in this year’s tour, as well as our premier partnering sponsors that continue to help make the Coors Light Future Pro Tour the premier, and most exciting all-amateur bass fishing tour in the west!

As we conclude our 16th season, it is our sincere wish that you and your families, have a safe and blessed holiday season.
