6'6 St Croix MH Glass rod. They don't make them any more, (they were the blue ones) but that glass kept those hooks in the bass' mouth! I also like the BPS crankin stick in 6'6. $30 for a rippin rod!! Can't beat that.

Pretty sure mine will be one of the Dobyns rip rods, when they come out. Right now, I'm liking my St. Croix.

My friend recommended that rod to me as well. I checked out the black premier, and it feels pretty good. Along side the Powell, it didn't feel like it had the glass 'feel' like the Powell did. He has the blue St. Croix too

LAMIGLAS XC 704X (SAY THAT THREE TIMES FAST)

THIS IS WHAT I USE TO CATCH THEM BIGGUNS ON CLEARLAKE!

Powell makes a nice rod as well, best way to buy what you want is to try some of your buddys rods and see what feels good! If I draw ya in a tourney you can try all my fishin poles, except for the one in my hand! Now if I am fishin against ya in a tourney all bets off!
Better yet, the Sport and boat shows are commin soon, you will be able to check them all out then..........xc 703 might work as well! I just got one. I'll let ya know!

I have the Powell 684 CB ripping rod and love it!! It is the best ripping rod I have ever used bar none. It is light, feels great, and has an absolutely perfect action and lots of power. I use mine 90% of the time with a Chronarch D BSV to throw ripbaits here in Florida on inshore waters for Snook and such. Obviously, its also a killer stick for topwaters, and soft jerkbaits too!!!

686 sounds like it may be a little too heavy for my needs- but the 684.... :P . I'd like something that I can throw 100 pointers, and staysee's with... along with a bigger bait like the 128. the 684 sounds like it is more in that range... maybe the 6'6 has less tip? bummer thing is that I would rather have a little more backbone for those deep cranks too...

I use the 684 as well. It's a great rod. It's also pretty versatile.
My go to rippin rod is Loomis GL2 MBR 738 6'6. We all have a little bit different way of working our baits. I sometimes have a tough time detecting the bite. My eyes suck as I'm getting older and I don't always see the twich. With the firmness of the tip on the Loomis rod, I seem to get more of my bites in the boat.
It works for me. You can't go wrong with that Powell rod. It works a bait real nice, Good Luck.

Yes, sounds like the 684 is the rod you'd want. It is extremely versatile for a variety of different sized baits. I use mine mainly for 2 1/2 - 4 inch jerkbaits and it handles them all perfectly. It could handle deep cranks but I like a little longer rod for that stuff.

I once heard about a rippin / crankin rod that was like 80% graphite and 20 % glass at the tip end (kind of like a pool stick is made out of 2 materials) im not sure what MFG or where to get one or if what i heard was someones idea of making a stick with those 2 diff materials. anybody heard of that before ??

Also you're right that black glass rod doesn't feel like a glass rod until it breaks in but when you get some good fish on it the response from the rod is great. My bro in law has the older blue one that felt like glass the second you touched it it also had a fat blank throughout the rod. The new black one is smaller diameter blank maybe making the feel not so " glass like" like you were saying. PM me if you want more feedback or want to try it out. I use the new currado 7.1 retrive for this rod.

Hands down for me is my Jeff Skaggs Custom Lamiglass MB841E. I love the load, sensativity and backbone of this rod. It's great with a wide variety of LC minner baits from Bevy's to Pointer 128s. And I just love the way it man handles the stripers when rippen a Pointer DD100! Originally I had this rod built for BIG cranks, but over the last 3 years, it has become a permanant fixture as my rippen rod!

When I first started really listening to GaryD about this technique and learnin' it, I was using a graphite rod. Man, I had so much fatigue and stress in my wrist and shoulders after about 2 hours. I'd then be icing down at the end of the day. Taking advantage of the tip action of this E-glass rod, I can rip effortlessly all day long and never feel like I got the BDO shoulder at the end of the day.

To my thinking, a fisherman picking out a rippin rod is like a golfer picking out a putter...there are a great number of products out there. Many different lengths, handles, weights and actions. Not everybody rips the same way, has the same size hands, or is the same height. You gotta find what works for you. If price is no object, then try every one you can get your hands on first. If you have a specific budget, try all the rods in your price range if possible. It's really pretty simple...what feels best to YOU.
If you always do what you did, you will always get what you got!

I agree with jimmy,Lamiglas for sure but different blank! XPC 703 flats series rod is awesome, the rod definately does most of the work, on the cast and I feel it gives you a few extra yards especially with the smaller baits but will handle the bigger baits as well, the rod loads great and also gives the bait a little extra action. The rod is designed for saltwater flat fishing but makes a great rip rod, landed some big girls up to 9lbs or so with no problems. good luck and if your close to the delta shoot me a p.m. you can try mine. I am not sponsored by lamiglas, just appreciate the quality of their products and for my money there is no other. just my .o2

St.Croix Avid, can't go wrong!

Post by Colebass »

My favorite is the AC70MHM St.Croix Avid crankbait series! They also make it in a 6'6", I just prefer the 7' model. The action on the rod is exceptional, in fact many custom rod makers recommend St.Croix blanks. The guides are fuji alconite with are great guides.

You can use this rod for rippin, cranking and open water for spinnerbaits. I have also used it for smaller topwater plugs!

Cooch, That white rod is the same blank as the Skeet 705 and after they borrowed our guide set it is almost the same rod, but yours casts better because of the guides we used.
You guys out there can give your friendly Lami dealer $215.00 for one of them or you can call me and get one customized for $200.00.

the 684 is the best I've tried so far, although at times I would like to have a little more power.
