Favorite weedless wacky hook for senko

Post by DB »

What is everyone's favorite weedless wacky hook for fishing senkos?
I have tried many, but I am still looking for a favorite.

Thanks,
DB

Gamagatsu wicked wacky hooks. Awesome hook, depending on size of bait use the 2/0 or 3/0. Give those a try and I bet you'll really like them.

Reaction Innovation used to make the weedless wacky hook ,based on the gamy shiner hook. The Wicked wacky hook copied those after they stopped making them. Tried every other hook made that style but none kepted the fish hooked as well. Now make my own from the gamy shiner hook using fibers from a jig weed guard tyed on. Need to suggest to Reaction innovations to bring back The weedless wacky hook.

Although it's not as weedless as the WWacky hook......Personally I love the Splitshot/Dropshot hook by Gamakatsu. The #3/0 is plenty big enough for 7" Senkos and Largemouth everywhere....but the #1, #1/0, #2/0 seem to be more popular for 4" and 5" senkos for spotted bass.

There are a couple of other worth mentioning but you'll have to tie a weed guard on it. A really good one is the NEW hook with Aaron Martins name on it. Great hook but must tie a weed guard.

IMHO the only manufacture Weedless Wacky style hook that was worth its salt was the RI WWHOOK - any more I find myself using a regular Gamakatsu hook. I have had too many fish not hook up with the Owner WW and Gammie wire WW so IMHO they are junk I would rather snag into timber then lose a fish.

Mark Poulson, I always try to use an O ring when fishing wacky style just to help save my bait especially around grass and brush piles.

Yes for me. I use an O-Ring all the time. It saves baits and time.

I use two o rings and cross them then pass the hook through the cross. This way the hook stands up ,no more hooking back into the bait. Yes that has happened to me more times then I like.

Owner or Gamakatsu wide gap wacky hook, weedless if needed and Never Slip bait tape allows you to hook the Senko length or cross ways.

Ash, if you are losing fish on the Owner wacky hook, you ain't doin' it right! When ya get bit, pause for just a second, then just reel set while lifting up on the rod. No "whoa son" hook sets needed. I have lost maybe 1 fish since I started using this technique a few years ago, and I am pretty sure it was my fault for horsing the fish! :?

And the green color doesn't affect anything!!! 8)

Rob I feel ya and used to use circle hooks more often the issue for me is mentally having to adjust my hook set. I can reel set with the best of them but this hook on the senko when pitchin and flippin isnt the one for me. Now out in the open tundra doesnt seem to matter, but then again i dont use weed guards out in the open tundra.
