First time Clear Lake help

Post by ScottyJ »

I'm going to Clear Lake in the morning for the day and could use some help. Whats a good place to launch and what areas on the lake should I focus on. I have a map but am not familiar with the lake and dont have all day to cruise around looking. Thanks!!

Hey Scotty, you could launch out of Lakeport(5th street launch) and throw a frog(you don't need anything else) all day long. Just focus on thick cheesy looking mats near tulle points mouth of sloughs. Konocti Vista Casino,Holiday, Shirley to name a few. These places will be to your right as you're leaving the launch. Find a frog fish and there will be more with him. Fish the mat thoroughly. Most bites came closer to the edges rather than the center, but ya still gotta watch out for the center. :) If the fish is there, it won't take long to get bit. And they are not in every single mat. Just certain ones(bunched up). So you can kind of move pretty quick in trying to figure out where they are at. Sometimes they will just bump it or roll on the frog. When that happens, don't move your frog. Just shake it in place and get ready. Make sure you have bb's or rattles inside your frog. I think this helps a lot with the thickness of the mats so they can hone in on the noise. Wish I was going. Good luck. D.B.COOPER 8)

Awesome sounds good. Whats the deal with boat inspections, will I need to be inspected or just go ahead and launch? Thanks

Where can I get the sticker from? I'll be heading up early morning trying to be on the water around 6:30.

If you are launching from lakeport, I think you can get it from Ed at Tackle It. BTW whats the word on your boat?

Cool I check in to Tackle it then... So far the boats still running good... I'm hoping it'll last awhile as it doesn't seem to be getting worse... So for no we are still on for our mission  hehehe
