FISHING RULE CHANGE WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND WILDLIFE Columbia River sockeye and summer chinook fisheries

Action: Open sockeye fishery and close summer chinook from Megler-Astoria Bridge upstream to Bonneville Dam.

Effective date: Effective July 1 through July 31, 2018.

Species affected: Sockeye and summer chinook.

Location: Megler-Astoria Bridge upstream to Bonneville Dam.

Additional information: Daily limit 6, up to 2 adult sockeye or hatchery steelhead or 1 of each may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery jack chinook, sockeye. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.


Action: Open sockeye fishery from Bonneville Dam to HWY 395 Bridge at Pasco

Effective date: Effective July 1 through July 31, 2018

Species affected: Sockeye

Location: Bonneville Dam to HWY 395 Bridge at Pasco

Additional information: Daily limit 6, up to 2 adult salmon or hatchery steelhead or 1 of each may be retained. Release all salmon other than hatchery chinook, sockeye. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.

Action: Open sockeye fishery from HWY 395 Bridge at Pasco to Priest Rapids Dam

Effective date: Effective July 1 until further notice.

Species affected: Sockeye

Location: HWY 395 Bridge at Pasco to Priest Rapids Dam

Additional information: Daily limit 6, no more than 2 adults, no more than 1 adult hatchery Chinook. Release all salmon other than hatchery Chinook and sockeye. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.

Action: Open sockeye fishery from Priest Rapids Dam to Wells Dam

Effective date: Effective July 1 until further notice.

Species affected: Sockeye

Location: Priest Rapids Dam to Wells Dam

Additional information: Daily limit 6, up to 4 adults may be retained. No more than 2 adult hatchery chinook and 2 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.


Action: Open sockeye fishery from Wells Dam to HWY 173 at Brewster

Effective date: Effective July 16 until further notice.

Species affected: Sockeye

Location: Wells Dam to HWY 173 at Brewster

Additional information: Daily limit 6, up to 4 adults may be retained. No more than 2 adult hatchery chinook and 2 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.


Action: Open sockeye fishery from HWY 173 at Brewster to Chief Joseph Dam

Effective date: Effective July 1 until further notice.

Species affected: Sockeye

Location: HWY 173 at Brewster to Chief Joseph Dam

Additional information: Daily limit 6, up to 4 adults may be retained. No more than 2 adult hatchery chinook and 2 sockeye may be retained. Release wild adult chinook and coho. Salmon minimum size is 12 inches.

Reason for action: This action provides recreational angling opportunity based a runsize upgrade of sockeye passage at Bonneville Dam. Summer chinook is tracking below the pre-season forecast, and as a result much of the allocation sharing will likely shift upstream to above Priest Rapids Dam, thus retention below Bonneville Dam is closed.
