Fishing the Klamath Labor Day Weekend
Fishing the Klamath Labor Day Weekend
Chinook salmon fishing was red hot in the Klamath River over the long holiday weekend. Anglers quickly met the salmon quota for the area, which triggers the fishing closure for adult, fall run fish on the main stem of the Klamath River beginning tonight, Sept. 7, at 11:59 p.m. The fishery at the mouth of the Klamath closed Aug. 27 and will remain closed to all fishing the rest of the calendar year. The rest of the lower main stem of the Klamath River below the Highway 96 Bridge at Weitchpec will remain open to the harvest of jack Chinook salmon less than or equal to 23 inches. All adult Chinook salmon caught must be immediately released and reported on the angler’s report card. CDFW thanks North Coast anglers for their help and cooperation with these fishery closures to help protect the resource.
