Fitting all your rods in one locker??

Post by Big Ed »

Anybody ever had trouble fitting all or most of your rods in one locker? I think the rod storage system is very nice on my 2007 Champion 200 Elite. I still kind of consider my boat new since i bought it brand new in Jan 2008. I get a little bit frustraded when my rods wont all fit in one locker. I find myself loading and unloading specific rods for specific lakes.

I have about 8-9 rods I rely on and they are all between 6'6" and 7'8" in length. Almost all have shimano baitcasters on them. The problem i have is that the handles on these reels bump each other and i cant stack or organize them in all of the openings or slots because they just dont fit in such close proximity to eachother. There are 16 slots for rods but im having trouble loading even 7 rods.

I set the reel forward of the rear organizer and of course I slide the rod tip forward in the corresponding tube. The tubes dont really line up all that good either but that isnt the main problem. It is at the reel end that makes the most problem for me.

Has anybody had this problem?? Im looking for some advice or tips on loading my locker. There is just no way my spinning outfits will load in there because of the bulkiness of the reels. I feel like im doing something wrong.

Thanks for your advices!

Looking at the hanger end of the rack Ed, it looks like if you alternated reel up/reel down reel forward/reel back in the rack you might be able to fit them in there better.

unfortunately I don't have that issue in my boat. I don't have racks, and my rods are always on the deck. :roll: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Ed,

My Champ did not come with that option. Be happy you have that. Looks fine to me, nice lookin rod organizer. Lemmy know if you want to sell it and I will put it in the empty cabinet I call a rod locker. Looks like a good selection of rods and reels in there

I agree with Tom. It looks like all your reels are "up" and in the center storage while your rod tips are to the outside tubes. I have a Ranger but the reel area seems to be the same as yours. My spinning reels go in the middle while baitcasters go to the inside and outside.

I have the solution, Ed.. Just give me all those rods & reels, and buy some smaller stuff. I promise I won't gripe cause I don't have room for it all! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks for the ideas and comments;

Im thinking about taking out the rod tubes and replacing it with another set of rod racks like in the photo.

Does anybody know where i can find a rack like that? I think somebody told me its called a 'Moosehead".

Thanks; Big Ed!

I was at the fred hall show today, and it looks like Anglers has some nice racks in the rangers they had there. I would guess they sell them seperately too..

BTW.. Guess who I ran into at the show. I was looking at some Abu reels, turned around, and almost bumped right into him. Skeet Reese. Nice guy too. :)

I'm not sure if it was because he won the classic, or if it was because he was trying not to crack up when I got kind of star struck when I saw him, but yes.. He was smiling the entire time I was talking to him..
