FLW Shasta - Best place to eat in town?

Post by Guest »

Since the off limits prevents most of us from talking about fishing, let's change the topic to something we can talk about. Many of us are coming in from out of town and have either never been to Lake Shasta or haven't been in a while. For many this may be the only time we visit Lake Shasta this year.

At the Stren Championship Chuck Peak & myself asked around this very question until we ran into a couple of local cops on break. They directed us to a great BBQ place that just happened to be owned by the Chief of Police. Needless to say we came back several times during the week.

So if you or a friend were to visit Lake Shasta for a week where would you recommend that they stop and eat at least once while in town? What kind of food do they serve?

Thanks & tight lines!

Try RCS. Its a smaller place located on the west side of I-5 (you can see it off the freeway) kind of across from phils. They serve American food, burgers, steaks, ribs, etc.. They make one mean burger and you better bring your appetite.

just think, now well have a 1 hour wait to get a great steak at RC's.........

I'd suggest, Super Walmart and some ramon and make hot water out of your coffee pot...

On another note, RC's is good!
Logans is good and had a great steak and you can throw your peanuts on the floor!
Beer was cold and the eye candy was delicious!

If you want one a great breakfast, try the Old Mill Eatery, on Shasta Dam Blvd. Take Shasta Dam Blvd turnoff, from I-5, go west. Stay on Shasta Dam, the road will split and when it comes back together again, make a left turn. The Old Mill is the log cabin on the left. Bring a BIG appetite. If you are up for a challenge, order The Big One. It is an omelette that you will not believe.

I keep it mainstream.

Chiptole, Red Robin, In and Out, Outback, and Panda Express. All of these places are across the street from one another.

Having worked in Shasta months at a time, RC is the best steak place, he cuts his own meat and a 8 oz steak is normally about 16. I remember when he only had a charcoal gril and lived up stairs of the place.
For Raw fish there is a place in the same complex as chevs. Locally own also.
For pizza, there is a place in Shasta Lake city that has the best around.
Redding is known for the 4 R"s,,,, retail, restrants, retirement, and recreation.

so most places up there are better than most cities of the same size.

When we were up there for the very first Bassmaster Invitational, I ate at Jack's on four of the seven nights I was there. Yes, it's THAT good. I've been going to Jacks for over 30 years.

I dont know how many times I've eaten there since. We had some work up there for awhile and ate there quite often. Try and eat there everytime we have a Shasta Tourney.

Even the way they do the salad is good.............

Yea, I think I might have to make it up there for weigh in now.............

Jacks is always crowded, but worth the wait. After the 3rd Crown and Coke you wont mind anyway.

Jacks is definately a great steak house on the weekends it can be extremely busy. Since they have opened Johnny's bar a few doors down it is cop central. Hilltop has a wide variety of good eats everything from Applebees to Cattlemens. I reccomend CR Gibbs.

Just so everyone from out of town knows. Reddings new thing is DUI checkpoints everywhere!
Don't stop till it sounds expensive!!

Rc's is great, but no parking... if you head South to Market street exit, and make a left at the light... you will see Dills Deli... He is a bbq master. Their Tri tip is insane.. it's also in the same area as the hotel's you will be staying at. There is a huge parking lot, no problem parking the trucks and boats...

Do yourself a favor and drop by for dinner. They have great food and will accomodate you.
