USA Kayak Fishing Team
Though Clara Ricabal now hails from northern California, her roots are solidly planted in Cuba, where her parents still reside. She writes and speaks fluently in both English and Spanish and regularly chronicles her fishing adventures in "Catching California," a regular column in _Western Outdoor News_, the state's only weekly hunting and fishing magazine. Clara will be competing on Center Hill Lake next week under Cuba's flag, pitting her skills against world-class kayak anglers from eleven other countries.
A nurse by trade, Clara is one of just a handful of women participating in major bass tournaments throughout California and the western United States. She also targets salt and freshwater species via boat, surf, or kayak and also has a passion for hunting. During waterfowl season, she's often hunkering down in a duck blind targeting geese, ducks and Pacific Brant.
Building on her prominence as the first woman to represent California on the Bass Federation State Team, Clara has been featured on several videos including an episode of "The Fishing Story with Ronnie Green."
She was one of eight US women chosen to represent the Recreational Fishing Foundation in their Women Making Waves campaign prior to the 2021 ICAST show. In addition to competing, she serves as a tournament director with the American Bass Association circuit at Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa. In addition, Clara is deeply interested in growing our outdoor sports for future generations, especially for women and underrepresented youth.
