Football Jigs in Cold Water
When it comes to football head jigs I'm confident with Yamamoto Double & Single Tail Grubs. In cold water I use the 3x1 Super Pork Frog, though I don't have a lot of experience with it. I still try the Yamamotos to see if the bass prefer them over pork on any given day.
What other plastic trailers are you using if LARGEMOUTH BASS don't respond to the pork? I'm primarily looking for ones that have less action, but any suggestions are welcome.
I have yet to try a rattle this fall/winter on football heads. I've used them when its cold and muddy on Arkie jigs, but wondered if I'd also do well when the water is cold and stained. Right now I'm fishing 50-52 degrees and 1-2 ft visibility.

Try the Yamamoto Flappin Hog II, its a pretty subtle, but bulky trailer.
Another would have to be the Chigger Craw. When on a FB head, it's pretty subtle.

Yamamoto single & twin tail grubs super pork products use the football head with double collar if your trowing hula grubs or if your throwing a band skirted jig use can slip the double rattle collar up past the first collar or like i do i slip the double rattle collar on first before i tie the skirt on and it hold it in place from slipping. the double collar football head mold is a DO-IT-MOLD in 1/4,3/8,1/2,3/4oz and has a light fiberguard insert built in it holds light wire hooks from 3/0 to 6/0 with no problem.

Yamamoto's flapping hog and the smallie sweat beaver. Both are excellent trailers, or just by themselves on a 3/4 to 1oz jig. Bill K

Fun fishing the country, each and every week.
Re: Football Jigs in Cold Water
First and Foremost - for winter time fishing - PORK - really add a chunk of your favorite ripped senko right behind the jig head then add your pork chunk. Winter Purple, Blue, Black - if in doubt throw da black. Fish have a tendancy to hold on to the pork longer.
If this really aint going the above suggestions are great and I will add a FULL HULA in your favorite double tail color. The added bulk will slow the ROF and add an extra bulkiness to your bait.
Another subtle trailer is a Paddle tail worm or a Big Leach

I personally prefer pork in winter. sweet beaver or double wide beaver for less movement, and as ash said FULL HULA is an awesome trailer adds incredible bulk to the bait. when the hook is big enough I will put on a plastic and a pork trailer, but thats mainly on flippin jigs works on football jigs too. As for the rattles I dont think they hurt, I usually use them.ash wrote: If this really aint going the above suggestions are great and I will add a FULL HULA in your favorite double tail color.
