FPT Folsom weigh in

Post by kb »

If a circuit or it's anglers screw up with their fish handling I have no problem with calling them on the carpet but I will tell you I went to the FPT Folsom weigh in today. Jay Rowen and the DFG crew was there to oversee this event, the flights were spread out and there was never more than about 8 trucks in line at the longest. The anglers were instructed to not bag fish until they were at the scales and they were given ice for livewells in line. It was hot and the fish were in really good shape that I witnessed.

DFG was also back at the ramp to watch the release and said they believed there was less than 1% mortality.

I have no problem with the education of the ciruits and it anglers but we should recognize when they do it right and hats off to our DFG and their volunteers for keeping an eye on the bigger events.

I agree with ya Kent if it is done correctly it should be called out. I didn't go to the weigh in but I can say that I did not see any floaters this morning when I blasted my guys off... Last year I went out the day after and I cleaned up 17 floaters at the ramp ... big improvement this year....

the dfg should get props for helping as well

I understood perfectly.. You said "You Heard" that they got banned from Clear Lake. And "You Heard" they got "Like a $10k fine."

Thats one of the problems with tournaments now a days. Everyone spreading rumors about the other. In the end it just hurts all. I mean I could sit here and mention you only drawing 15 boats on avg. and maybe thats because of your negativity towards others.. People dont want to hear that when they come out to fish a tourney. They want to be greeted by a happy positive TD. Try taking the high road Roger and not be so negative toward your peers..

I am always nice to the guys that fish my tournaments.. I just dont like you so i am not nice to you.

But this thread is about something different and not about you. My post was to point out kudos to rhe dfg as they did a good thing protecting our fishery.

No the reason I dont like you is your a paranoid psycopath.. I am tired of hearing you whine about how guys are always stealing your water and if you cant beat them then you call them a cheater and try to get guys to follow fisherman on the river. Your a sad individual and you really need to seek professional medical attention. Ever since you got caught breaking the rules in the FLW tournament and you were disqualified you have not been the same....

If you want to put crap on the jacket you begged me to get for you then by all means please do so it is exactly what belongs on anything with your name on it... I could care less. It just proves my point. you need serious professional attention

Rodger, that's not what happened at all.

Future Pro Tour was not fined, and they were not banned from tournaments at Clear Lake for a year. To Vince's credit, he went to DFG and had a self scheduled meeting to ask what he could do to improve procedure. DFG reviewed their notes and provided him a letter that complimented him on what he "attempted to do" for the resource, but also said that they recognized that several participants were not following the instructions given regarding the care of fish.

The one thing they recommended in their letter was not to have an FPT event in summer with the algae bloom. The size of the field coupled with the conditions created stresses that could be avoided by not holding events there "in the summer months." No fine, no ban, just a state organization and a tournament organizer working together to come up with solutions.

Yes, Vince is my friend, but I am a journalist first and I cannot stand to see facts not stated or even worse; untruthful statements made about anything.

Yes DFG made their presence felt at Folsom, but Vince set things up to make sure that the fish were handled properly and smoothly. Including making the flight check in times 30 minutes apart instead of 15 minutes apart to alleviate congestion in the weigh-in lines. He had staff directing traffic and staff at the ramp to make sure that fish were immediately released, or received necessary fizzing before being released.

The event you spoke of last year; I attended and helped Justin Nelson and his partner fizz fish before release, and even had my daughters wading into retrieve fish that needed extra attention. I witnessed several anglers ignore our requests to bring their catch to us at the release station and toss their fish into the shallow water of the ramp without care or fizzing before being released.

It seems that many people are ready to completely assassinate organizations quickly, but those same people are slow to report the steps that have been made to create solutions. DFG and FPT played a part in making the event Saturday a success on the fish care front, but if DFG had seen problems, they would have stepped in and fixed them - they never did.

FPT brought 100 boats to Folsom and ran a smooth tournament, and the DFG came to make sure it ran well. It was a success.

But, for your own sake, get the facts before you start saying that you know what happened with Clear Lake or any other situation involving anything or anybody else. You weren't at any of those events; I was at all three, you didn't sit in any meetings and you didn't receive any correspondence regarding fish care at any other organizations' events. Avoiding involving yourself in any libelous or slanderous situations is probably the right thing to do.
