FROG RODS?
FROG RODS?
Hey all you froggers out there need some help
Which rod for the frog?
I just bought a Lamiglass XC725 (7' 2") Frog rod. I paired it with a Chronarc 100SF & 50lb braid. The tip seems a little stiff and I lose accuracy when casting. Is this rod suited more for in close frogging? Prior to the XC725, I was throwing my frogs on a Lamiglass XFT766 Flipping Stick. I did get better accuracy but don't want to commit my flipp'n rod for frogging.
What other rods would you reccomend?

Those rods are too stiff for certain situations.
If you want to build up your forearms like Popeye, throw the Loomis or lamiglas. If not, try the new Daiwa Frog Rod. Light, tough, and designed to handle braided lines. This rod is perfect when you need to get a lot of action (walk the dog) from your frog or you are fishing open water and trough's.
Not only is your casting affected by the broomstick, but you can't walk the bait in the open water pockets as effectively. However, if the bite is stupid and they are crashing through the mat in reckless abandon, throw the broomstick? You don't get much action when the mat is that thick anyway so you might as well throw a heavy rod. I don't mean to confuse, but that's my opinion. Good luck.

All good advice
For a frog rod, you'll want a stiff rod like your Lamiglas rod(s) for mat fishing. But for open water fishing, you want a rod with a little slower action in a MedHvy application.
Here on the delta and up at Clear Lake I've seen people use a wide range of rods for their froggin with success. I've seen one guy use a 7' Lamiglas fiberglass crankin/spinnerbait rod, another use a Loomis MBR 783, and even Leroy Bertolero uses spinning tackle for it.
I'm biased to Kistler LTA rods, but basically what you're looking for is a med heavy rod with a slower action. Line rating should be up to 17 or 20lb test. Good luck.

Just Purchased a>
Daiwa Frog'in Rod (New on the Market). I've used it twice on full days frog'in.
What I've found is the short cast is hard in accuracy, but right on target with your normal or long cast. Hookset are good, no problem with that so far (unless your throwin a Swamp Donkey har).
Im using 40# Power Pro on a Quantum Accurist with a Shimano Curado with 65# has a backup. So far no problems with Professional overspins LOL!!!!!!.
Short cast, I've resorted to pitchin the frog. You may won't to try this> Leave about 2-3ft hanging from your rod tip and then load the rod up by twirl'in it and then releasing it at the buttom of the cast. This may take some time to learn, but it works.
Good Luck and Tight Lines

Two Options
Either 2IG or Quantum
Dean Rojas Signature series Frog Rod.. designed specifically for Dean were just announced at ICast... to go with the Dean Rojas Spro Frog.. Which won best of ICast.
There are 2IG rods by Bassmedics and Snagproof which are specifically designed for either Mat Fishing or Swimming Frogs... They are very nice rods.. ..
Take a look at each of these they are less expensive then the Loomis and the Lamiglas... however, many think they are just as high quality as those.
