Frogs vs. Toads
Frogs vs. Toads
I am fairly new to slop fishing. How do you decide to throw a hollow body frog like the Snagproof versus a soft plastic toad like the Horny Toad? Any specific difference in conditions or do you just throw both every trip and see what the fish prefer?

Re: Frogs vs. Toads
For me, it usually comes down to speed. If I want to do a lot of stop and go, I like the frogs because they float. If it's a faster retrieve or more open water, the toads are good. They will sink if you let them. Experiment with them, find out what works for you. I find frogging to be hard work.

I like to throw a toad in more open water with clumps of mats. If the fish are active a toad alonside a mat or inbetween a couple of close mats can bring violent strikes. They don't miss the toad as often as they do the frog unless its in open water.
