fun fishing

Post by mark poulson »

Would you rather catch lots of big stripers, or some smaller largemouths?
Last weekend my buddy and I got into a frothing stiper boil at Castaic, and caught 9 fish over 5lbs between us. It was like a tuna boil on the salt.
It's been two years since I've seen striper boils like that at Castaic.
It was a blast.
Afterwards, we caught largemouths on plastics, but the topwater stripers made the day.

Nothing like a 7lb Castaic Striper crushing the dd22 right at the boat.

A remember some footbal field sized boils @ Castaic a few years back. The boat was a ways off from one of the boils, and I hucked a sammy on 12Lb test as far as I could, but it landed short of the boil still. I was like "Damn!". All of the sudden the big boil re-surfaced and sweeped directly over to my bait. I twitched the sammy once and it was GONE. Had an 8Lber on that lighter line on a 6'6" top water rod. That was a blast. Fought that sucker for like 15 minutes. Caught a bunch more 5+Lbers that day.

Anybody checked the water level in the last few days? Last weekend it was down about 5-6ft from the weekend prior to that.

I had an 8lb LM come on chasing Striper boils. Tossed my bait as far as I could and gave it a few twitches and it was on, thought I had a decent size striper tell I got it to the boat.

I was at a club derby at Pyramid and the fishing wasn't so good. My buddies in another boat said screw it and started chasing the stripers just to get some action and one of them hooked a 8lb LM on a pointer, he was short pumping it like it was a tuna tell it started dogging him. When he got it to the boat he about pooped himself. He got it 5 min before weigh in and beat us all.

Not really sure yet. The big ones pack up really tight and roam aimlessly. Or theres one that owns a spot and the rest are way smaller. I need to get my boat. Tracker has had it for 7 months and are in progress of lining up a screaming deal on a new Z9 for my jet boat. The hull just wasnt strong enough for the design. so there compensating me. When i get, it ill know a lot more. i cant get out as much as ide like right now. which would be everyday!
...at Casitas they pull up on a couple spots everyday at different times. you just have to hit em all and hope to get lucky or practice and learn when and where for that time of year. this place is way bigger and hard to do that run around the lake if your not rich. Im sure it will be somewhat the same here but more expensive to make the run! Plus to run all the bank here to see whas under you takes a lot longer also. we'll see how it goes. If you make it up here mark we should go out and do some damage out there. let me know!

It's a deal. Of course, that depends on work, and money.
Doesn't it always?
Hope your new boat gets there soon. Can't wait to hear how you do up there.

You can always make the fairly short drive down to our new digs and help me sort out the River, Paul. :D We'll be there by November 1st, so any time after that let me know and you'll have a place to come.
