Gabby Gifford

Post by Greg_Cornish »

What a rock solid team her and her husband are. Listen to a radio documentary on her this morning. It was so touching how he was there for her through everything and took charge of her rehab with her mothers blessing. He thought of rehab points the pros couldn't.

He put up signs not allowing sadness. Everything was onward and upward. I hope she achieves all her goals. I doubt she'll return to her seat, but they don't.

No doubt about it. Just had a miracle in my family.

Yesterday in a 4 hour surgery a crack team of spinal surgeons at Rochester, Mayo saved my 74 year old big brother (and by big, I mean big, not fat) from becoming a quadriplegic with a spinal lesion higher than mine. He's up walking and moving better than expected. He had a cyst on his spine that infected the spinal column. They removed bone, replaced it with cadaver bone behind the spine and a a 3 inch metal plate metal.

A couple more days and he'd have been paralyzed. 3 months of heavy antibiotics and he might be back to where he was. He's not out of the woods yet because his voice is very raspy and they think its because of stress but also suspect the infection has spread. He will where wear a neck brace for 3 months and take antibiotics for 3 months or possibly the rest of his life.

Best thanksgiving I ever had.

During the recovery time from surgery another brother stayed watch. From this email, the brother on watch hasn't lost his sense of humor.

"Things going really well..........

I got the Nurse's phone number"

Oh, and just to keep it political... I posted this on another forum and got this response from a Canadian. I don't know why he didn't say, "up here," and "down there," though.

"Good to hear. Your hospitals and doctors are so much better over there. My cousin had to go to ST Louis to get cancer treatments and is cancer free, over here they said she will not make it a year."
