Gear ratio for 6" or smaller swimbaits/paddletails

Post by Team Efusjon »

Debating between a 5.4 and a 6.4 retrieve for a medium-sized swimbait rig I'm thinking of putting together (already have one for the big boys). I'm going to be using 6" & 4" BBZ's and hollow-body paddletail baits with this rig. I also want to use it for bluegill style baits to put on beds. For the latter, I'm thinking the 6.4 would be better because I'll be able to crank in slack line quicker, but just want to get some opinions. Thanks!

Been using the higher speeds, just crank slower. I think its easier to slow down than to speed up.

Yeah, that's what I think too, but I tend to reel fast out of excitement sometimes. Lower ratio would help in that case.
