Gen 2 HDS 8 & LSS 1 No Source

Post by Skeeter59 »

Got the new units installed in Late March. First few trips everything was flawless. Last week and today I would have structure scan after launching the boat for a while and then when I would go back to my split screen sonar displays I would have "No Source" for structure scan. I turned the unit off and then back on same thing. One more time and my structure was reading again. Does anyone have any idea what the deal is? I've searched the Lowrance self support, but I cant find an answer there, so here I am.Thanks in advance.

Check the power and ground to the LSS. I was in a boat last week that had the same problem and I found a ground wire that was lengthened to reach the buss board to connect to the ground connection. Where the guy extended the ground wire he just twisted the wires together. I untwisted the wire and placed a butt connection and the problem has not returned.

As this problem is intermittent I would say a loose connection somewhere is the problem.

Checked my connections to main board and everything has stayed snug. I haven't found any faulty butt connectors, but I will keep searching for some bad wiring. Thanks Ken.

I have found that replacing all butt connectors and any other wire end connections has solved these types of mystery power/ground issues. Sometimes we put a connector on these small wires and crimp too hard and break enough of the tiny wires that there can be intermittent problems that are hard to pinpoint. Possible solution but no guarantees.
