Golden Mussel found at Tahoe
Re: Golden Mussel found at Tahoe
On Friday, Lake Tahoe watercraft inspectors found invasive golden mussels on a boat at the Alpine Meadows inspection station in California.
According to officials, this is the first interceptions of the new invasive species by Lake Tahoe inspectors since the mussels were detected for the first time in North America in the Sacramento area in October 2024.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District strengthened inspection routines in March of this year in response to the discovery in October.
Inspectors at the Alpine Meadows station have done an initial decontamination on the 65-foot boat, which will be held under quarantine until the boat is deemed risk-free.
"Golden mussels pose an extreme threat to Lake Tahoe and the waters of the region and it is critical that everyone stay vigilant and always 'Clean, Drain, and Dry' all watercraft and equipment when visiting new areas," said Dennis Zabaglo, Aquatic Invasive Species Program Manager for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
Since the October discovery, golden mussels have been found as far north as Bakersfield through connected water systems.

Re: Golden Mussel found at Tahoe
I’m sure golden mussels are or will be a problem. I’m not here to argue about that. But how do they find a boat at every initial inspection. You have to ask yourself. Who is going to pull their 65 foot boat from the Delta to bring it to Tahoe. Considering it would require a tractor trailer to move it. And after spend all that time and money to pull it out of the delta and then not inspect it. It’s not gonna happen. The state on the other hand needs to be able to show there’s a problem in order to justify their actions. That part of this problem is all theater. These boats are planted by the state.

You and a handful of others can't be fooled but we have the likes of Ken Norton Jr. and some old bags and farts that watch the 6:00 O'clock news that eats this crap up. They believe the state has good intentions and is backed by science and what not but what they're lacking is common sense. Make it make sense and they're not doing it. This doesn't happen overnight like its all being portrayed. Let's see if any infestations happen in the "open" lakes in the next few years. I'm betting NOT just like the last 100 years prior to this nonsense but they don't get it.
Re: Golden Mussel found at Tahoe
Just let Trump tell us we need boat decontamination and restrictions
Then the derangement syndrome will kick in and the whole thing will be a hoax the news will report how science says the golden mussel is beneficial to Ca
