Help choosing a spinning reel for finesse'n

Post by jd-santaclarita »

Hi all,
I haven't been on this board in about 2 years, but I remember back then it was fair game to talk about gear. Not sure if that is still the case, but I have noone else to talk to about it, so here goes.........I am looking for a reel to match my 6' phoenix green rod for castaic lagoon worm'n. I currently have a shimano stradic 1000fh on my dropshot rod and I like it alot. I am looking for something small and light like that reel, but I was trying to avoid paying $120 for it. I read somewhere that a good option would be a TICA Cetus SB500 for $55, but I have never seen one. Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Stradic

I think this is the same JD I know. man you make the big bucks, just get the Stradic 1000. It is worth the money. So all the frustration gone yet from yesterday?

symetre

the shimano symetre is an awesome choice if you're not wanting to spend $120. they have one less bearing than the stradic, are pretty light, and only cost $85. awesome reels.

Look at Quantums, either the Catalyst or Kinetic.*NM*

You can touch Quantum for quality and price.

for $129 get the Energy which is 10 ball bearings, ceramic drag and a fantastic guaranteed finish.. this reel will last you a lifetime and has a titanium unbreakable bail... Unbelievable warranty as well.

For $89 get the same reel with 8 ball bearings.. Catalyst is the model

For $69 Get the kinetic... and it has 6 ball bearings...

These reels are the same reels the guys on tour use...

Gary Klein
Dean Rojas
Gerald Swindle
Tommy Biffle
Shaw Grigsby...

And as Gerald Swindle said best

Well...I ended up slurging and got the stradic. I was kind of on the fence with the quantum energy, but the fact that the stratic has a smaller profile sealed the deal for me... with the 6' light rod, i want the smallest footprint I can get. Thanks a ton for all your advice.
