How your boat runs with what prop on Yamaha SHO Motors

Post by BigPapa »

I have a Stratos 201 Pro Elite Hull with a new Yamaha VMAX SHO 225 motor and Im running a Tempest Plus 25 pitch (3 Blade). Just recently at Clear Lake This set up ran 5600 RPM and 59-60 MPH Max. Very little bow lift and horrible prop slip calculated. Im curious to know if any guys are running mid 70's mph on GPS not gauge with WHAT prop on these Yamaha SHO motors???? I heard these motors run better with the bigger diameter props 15 1/8 versus 14 5/8.
The Tempest Plus Prop is 14 5/8 diameter which is what Im running now. (Results NOT GOOD)

Yes it is yamaha vmax series by yamaha made for the sho no vent holes in the prop. Great hole shot and acceleration very happy with the prop. Not good at altitude had to drop down to a 23 at high elevation. Do you have solid plugs in your prop and the hub washer to keep exhaust from going over out side of prop might make a difference

It is right on! Yeah vent holes are all plugged as far as washers I have a kit but it only works 2 ways so theres one piece that doesnt seem to work right even following the directions I guess because Im running the Merc prop not Yamaha.

Good info. I found out that some of today's big structure scan transduecers can cause big reductions on prop performance. So, if your having trouble with cavitation or something feels different it just might be where you mounted that transduecer on the back of your boat.
