Hydraulic jack plates

Post by offduty »

I have a jack plate on my TR-21 now and will be mounting a 250 VMAX SHO motor soon. What is the benefit of having it replaced with with a hydraulic model? Is it worth it and if so what Hydraulic jack plate would you recommend?

Between a manual and hydraulic, try to go with the more expensive hydraulic model.

The reason is because you can make adjustments on the fly to compensate for water conditions or weight distribution for proper lift.

I saw a huge benefit when I tried to get on pad in skinny water...like low tide in Sherman Lake. I jacked up the plate, got up on pad, then lowered it back down for the run to make sure water was flowing through the impeller.

The downside is cost. The other downside is not all hydraulics have the pump and reservoir stored inside the plate itself. So you may need to make room in your battery compartment.

I'd go with the Triton OEM brand since you run a Triton or ask Yamaha if they have a preference. I personally used a Bob's Machine Shop because at the time, that's what the Rangers were using.

they are nice for idling thru skinny water or trying to get on pad in shallow stuff. But for casitas I wouldnt even bother. save the money bro . I have one on Havasu and only use it in the river. But if you plan on fishing the delta and want to run on pad in the lakes at low tide then you could prob use it.

if you get one, get a Bobs, there bullet proof, avoid atlas, there junk! I'm going on my 4th one in 4.5 months as tge screws on the round slide rails all back out and catch and break off and then it's stuck in the position.

There warranty is fast but there product is junk.

I appreciate the post because the Atlas is what I was considering. I guess I will go with Bob's.

Thanks

Kind of like buying 87 Octane to save $$ on a SL class Mercedes.

If your gonna pay for the veh./engine why penny -pinch and avoid the true ride.??

Well it cost me $1200.50 for the 10" Bobs hydraulic with a black LED gauge. By the way they give a $50.00 discount to fire, police, ems and military. I know those command link gauges won't be cheap either.

I had a Bob's on my last boat and I think they are worth every penny. You might check BBC as I saw one for sale there. No worrying about adjusting a manual plate and you can always trim the boat perfectly for your load. One of the better expenditures I made.
