Insurance for tackle (Rod&Reels)

Post by Bassin »

After reading the thread about the high cost of fishing, I was thinking, I have invested a lot of money into rod & Reels. So, when I loose one in the water or break one, I feel it. How many of you insure your Tackle? How much do you pay for this insurance? Is there a good company to work with on this?

Curious.....

Bryan,

I am pretty sure my boat insurance covers against loss while on the water, I don't know about breakage.

I got 5000 in fishing tackle coverage when I got my boat insurace believe it was about 80 dollars a year with a 250 dollar deductable. I got the insurance through Allied. Probably need to up the coverage now. Buying new tackle is a disease a very expensive disease.

Dean will probably know the details better then I.

Homeowners is the first line of defense against Stolen personal goods.

My Boat Insurance has a rider for 5K of tackle.

I dont believe either cover for breakage or failure of equipment this would be stolen or say came off on the hiway. It really wouldnt be worth it to say lose one rod and have your premiums go up on your homeowners or boat insurance.

In either case you will need receipts and documentation to backup your claims. A great way to document your personal effects for homeowners is to tape record with a time and date stamp all of your personal effects. Archive this tape in a fire safe or safe deposit box and update it annualy.

Fishing tackle can be scheduled onto your homeowners, renters, or condo policy if you do not have a boat. Depending on the carrier they charge based on a per dollar amount and the items need to be put into some list form. Or you can have it possibly blanketed depending on the company. Usually a lump some that is similar to the addition ont he boat policy that doesn't require the list to be provided. Talk to your insurance company or give me a call with any further questions.

I was told by my agent who is a family member that boat coverage is the only one that does not get assesed when you issue a claim. In other words they do not up your premiums.
