Post by Bryant »

How was the first day of the ISE show? I'm planning on going Saturday. Just wanted to know what I'm in for.

Only had 2 hours today, so I moved quickly through to make sure there wasn't any deals to be missed. There weren't. I think the show is helpful when you are considering purchases of electronics, boats, highend reels & rods, etc. It gives you the opportunity to speak with manufacturers reps in one place.

If you have the time, sit in on as many of the seminars as you can. There is so much great information being shared from all types of anglers and different styles. I hadn't planned on this today, but happened on Bub Tosh's seminar on swimbaits and was amazed with the amount of information he shared. He was very candid about a multitude of swimbaits and their pros and cons.

Sorry for the rambling post, but I didn't see any deals that would warrant the $19 to get in, but the seminars are.

Wow !! We had a Blast of a Day today !! Image

Traffic sucked getting there for some reason..... But it worked out perfectly with some kind person in line handing us a free pass.

The boys were in heaven on their first entry- It was really cool to watch their eyes widen in a natures candy store. After Luke saw almost every lure he has been wanting to see and purchase from a catalog up close.... We watched a demonstration on Drop, Sinko's, and some Jigs.

Image

Many more booths and show cases later of every variety- Luke was called out to try something he has always wanted to try-

Then both boys were out there and Jack was just a true natural to fly casting !! You can see how much more he is naturally relaxed than Luke in his body positions from just his leg positions alone. It just one of the reasons why we always call him "Kick Back Jack" and his arm was just so fluid it was Poetry !! The way Jack took to it from just listening to Lukes instructer blew my wife and I away with his cast- but not his 2and throught the 20th+ as the first was no fluke.

More booths and halls- We found a steal of a camo parka/rain jacket on clearance originally $110 for the wife for only $20 with pockets/zippers/snaps everywhere with a built in hood. -- She looks SO sexy it it !!

I purchased a 2 year subscription to WON and Jack recieved a free 6'6" Med Action Diawa spinning rod. Later I met Dan Matthison at the Sniffer booth, Saw Kent Brown laying on a boat like he was sunning himself... and many more people that I don't know who they are- but I imagine are held in very high reguard.

Out of the blue- California Deer Association pulled the boys over and handed them both a sports bottle..... Then proceded to fit them shirts !! WOW !! How cool is that !!

Image

The absolute best was meeting up with Long Nguyen again- What a true pleasure Long is !! He brought a reel for Luke and TONS reading material for Jack and I wished we could of talked/visited longer. THANK YOU LONG !! ( You are Way over the top !! Image )

On the way out Luke purchased a new rod to match his new reel from Long- and some jigs, Jack got a new Shimano reel to match his new rod for $10 and some worms, and I was able to get 2 spools of line that will last a long time -tax free and with no shipping charges for the same price as BPS and Cabelas. Image

It was indeed a great family outing.... and there is so much more to be enjoyed as the youth fair was closed today.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Really dissapointing this year. They combined the hunting section with the fishing section and it sucked. "Bubba" and the boys were not happy located with all the flyfishing "Yupies" at one point I thaught there was going to be a fight. I wasted my time bringing my kid to catch a fish because the kid section was not giong to open until Fri. Wish the paper mentioned that!!! What a bunch of crap. They still charge full price even if the show is not complete. Just my .02

i will be going this saturday, for the first time ever, im thinking of it as a place that has new lures, lures for sale, and a bunch of vendors that are actually huge, shimano, daiwa, and so on. is it? im driving from monterey so its quite a drive for me, just wondering if it will be worth it? im basically looking to purchase new bass fishing equipment, also maybe a boat if the price is right. :?:

We Did !!

The kids hall will be open Saturday and Sunday. From what I know is that the Delta Teen Team http://www.deltateenteam.com/ will have about 6-9 youths helping out with the trout pond for the kids to catch trout. (Feel free to help them out if you can) And JHO is having some volunters for the kids archery where they can shoot bows/arrows from 15 yards and up to baloon targets- How cool is that? --There may be alot more going on in the Youth Hall- This is just what I know so far.

We recieved more out of the show than we were expecting going in- and then some... Image Even JJ Lares himself tuned my duck call for free .... and it was not even his call !! (Gardner Main-Street single reed) -- I always thought it blew sweet before.... Now I can hit higher highs and a softer feed call with less effort. :D

Alonzo- From the Shimano Reps- That 60-80 some page catalog for 2007 went into my backpack. I filled up a back-pack to within 30 pounds... and they boys both carried some bags with more reading material and magazines.

The things we bought--- They were the same price as Cabelas, BPS for gear/rods reels. Lures- they were same except for the hand made stuff (witch equaled a dime saver for most jigs). The lures on whole--- They were within 15-45 cents +/- from The Hook and ExtreamAngler here in Oakley-- Just more variety for plugs as some stores are currently out of stock for the Rapala line that Luke had interest in. --But they were tax free and if I had ordered those two spools of 3K yards of P-Line that I purchased with some Floro ... I would of had to of paid shipping cost that in itself preaty much paid for my entry fee alone. Image

I would of prefered to of gone to the Sac show just for the drive and visit some family in Roseville- but I am sceduled for a call in Wednesday Night for Jury Duty on Thursday the 16th and am working Fri-Sun days.... So I wished not to take that chance.

Long- Luke fitted all on his own with his own money - a 6' 10" Shimano Clarus rod in MH Fast to match the reel and braid you gave him. Image Image From us to you-- THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN !!

Good luck on getting a better price, it won't happen that is for sure. They (shimano, Daiwa etc) set the price and they won't let anybody discount for any reason. They can throw things in along with the purchase i.e. a hat, shirt, line etc but the price will not change. Shimano is especially ruthless when it comes to this policy.
If you get something free with the purchase it makes it worth your while. Good luck!
