ISH'S PHAT FROG

Anyone notice the hook up ratio any less because of the stiffer body. I was out today and the fish were hammering the frog but I was only hooked up 8 times out 20 blow ups. Is it the frog or the fish? I know it could be me!

I have noticed it also it helps BIG TIME if you just bend the hooks out some.

Curtis,
First of all congrats on the beautiful new fishing platform,sweet ride. As far as the Phat frog, I have not had any issues that you dont get with any other frog, it walks great doesent take on any water. As far as hook ups are concerned every day fish eat a bait different, some days they are agressive and you have violent strikes and you can do nothing wrong. Some days either Im off on my timing or they are just not eating the bait. In some cases like any frog you might want to open up the hooks a little, but not much because you compromise the bait being weedless. I have a tough time blaming the bait unless the bait just completely fails from a quality standpoint.

What I can say is that the ish frog walks real well, it just doesn't seem as soft. Today I went through 3 different frogs; R2S, Bobby's Perfect, & Ish's. The R2S after 1 fish sank with a huge hole in it, the Bobbys didn't walk as easily but seemed to hook up better, the Ish's drew the most strikes but hooked up the least. All the frogs were similar color(fred's), I tried other colors but that's what they wanted. Go figure if you look at cooch's post and see the frog that ate the bird. Any how just was curious to see if any modifications should be made.

Most Excellent Curtis, I just knew something was up with that, cause you have been a Monday guy fer the 10 years I've known ya!

As far as the Frogs go, I indeed prefer the Bobby's Perfect to the Ish Frog, I experienced the same as you with that bigger bait. Bobby's Frog, is smaller, hence more fish will git more of that bait in their face to where the hook up ratio increases. As far as it walking, I asked Chris Ball about this several years ago and he showed me a tuning trick that will allow that Bobby's Perfect to walk with the best of em, infact with practice, ya can git it to almost do a 180, sitting in place!

You have to feather the rubber legs. First trim off(from the inside of the legs) half the rubber strands to where ya only have 12 strands on each side. Then starting with the strand closest to each hook on the outside, cut all but 1 inch off. Pinching the strands flat, working from the outer strands in, the next strand is cut about 1/3" longer than the last. I will typically leave the last 4 inside strands uncut. That frog will now walk like you've never seen it walk! Attached is a pic so ya can see the end results.
