Jenkinson/Sly Park
Jenkinson/Sly Park
I am headed to Jenkinson/Sly Park in a couple of weeks. I have never fished it. Any information on this lake. Thanks.
Re: Jenkinson/Sly Park
dartheads, crankbaits, JIGS, zara puppy early and late im the day. hang on to your rod! Primarily a smallmouth lake but has a growing population of largies!!!! but the locals wont tell u that! been fishing that lake annually for 15 years. Spring is awesome for the smallies early to mid june for the largies to spawn! shallow rocky banks in the morning and steep vertical banks later in the day. good luck and shh! tight lines hope this helps.
BUZZBAITS IN FEBRUARY!@#$%^&*(
Re: Jenkinson/Sly Park
I'm headed there this Thursday for my annual trip. I hav'nt had any luck there is years past. Caught a couple of small ones and one about 2 1/2 pounds last year on a dart headed grub. All smallmouths. I'm going to try alittle harder this year now that I will have 4 days there. I'll let you know how I make out.

I have fished there in August the past 3 years, I have mainly concentrated around the big dam and little dam. the big dam I used senkos, hula grubs (3/8 oz football heads) and yum craw bugs. I caught mainly SM around the big dam and LM around the small dam to 7 lbs. I hope to get more time up there in the near future. The yellow jackets are a pain in the butt, wash your hands after handling fish.

Guys, Thanks for suggestions. I am getting some ideas for my trip the end of this month and will give a report when I get back. My wife wants to fish from her kayak so i will get her set up and then I am going to take my Triton and cover more water.
Anybody else have some ideas.
Thanks to all.

Hey Dan, When I was there you could'nt get to the dam's, they were roped off. Are you talking about the points on the out side of the rope? I did catch a nice one off the rocks on the small dam from the bank. The only place I can cath em' is off of the island.

Mike,
I've never taken my boat there, just walked the bank. Guess I never noticed the ropes?? I found the small dam was the better of the 2 and very productive EARLY morning. I know a few people in pollock pines (meat hunter types) they yank very nice SM on a regular basis. I had one smallmouth yank the rod from my hands, it was only 2.5lbs, I have never felt any fish hit so dang hard for it's size.

Ron, I only fished for about 4 hours total and never got out before 8:00am, but I found a pretty good bite on a Zara spook Jr in the am for small smalmouths. I also caught some on a fat free shad crankbait. I caught one 3 pound largemouth on a 5" senko. All of the fish were on the far sede of the lake, in or just out of the 5mph zone. That was the shadey side of the lake in the morning. I bet you can catch em' pretty good if you can get out at first light. The water skiers tear the lake up pretty good about 9:00am. Good luck.

Thanks Mike. Were you using crawdad color or shad colors on those cranks.
How was the camping, hope you had a good time? I will be over in the group camp area so that shade area should be real close.

I was using shad colors, but I'm sure crawdad would work also. You are staying on the good side of the lake. Camping was good. Weather was great! 90 during the day 60's at night. I had my 3 boys and some friends with kids with us, so I spent more time pulling them around the lake on the tube and knee board than fishin, but is was alot of fun.
