ABA Ironman held its 6th and last event combined with their Tournament of Champions (TOC) at Lake Havasu. The weather was nice with very little wind and mild to hot air temperature. Once lines were out and day one was over, Jonathan Demonet smashes another win at Lake Havasu with a two-day total of 178.50”. His day was 87.25” and then followed up with a massive 91.25” besting second place by 54.00”. On Saturday, the final ABA Ironman event this is how they caught their fish.
“I caught my fish with three different lures a chatter bait, crankbait, and flipping.” declared Demonet, “The main lure was a crankbait and a chatter bait.”

“I was targeting grass in 14 to 25 feet of water with the crankbait and chatter bait.” vocalized Demonet, “I would cut the paddle tail off the Keitech so it had a straight tail.”
“The chatter bait, I would let it sink to the bottom and do long sweeping pulls to trigger my bites.” announced Demonet, “I would get my bites either when it fell to the bottom or when I would pull it free from the grass with the sweeping motion of my rod.”
“The crankbait, a Norman deep little N in sexy shad, I would reel as fast as I could over the grass to get my bites. Without hitting the grass and reeling in as fast as I could to get the fish to react to my crankbait.”
“I caught a couple of flip fish, fishing a chigger craw with a ¾ ounce weight around sparse tulles.” stated Demonet, “Day-one, I caught a 4-pounder flipping and day-two I caught a 16” fish that I culled later that day.”

“Day-one, I only caught 5 keeper fish, but on day two, I caught several limits since I knew what the fish were doing.” said Demonet, “I fished a mile North and a mile South of where we launched.”
“I caught a fish the last few minutes of the day to push me up for the win.” he said.
Demonet thanked Anglers Marine, Havasu Landings for hosting this event, ABA and most of all my family for all their support.
Jay Scrarcella came in second place with a two-day total of 124.50”. On day one, Scarcella had 82.50” and on day-two he had 42.00”. Scrarcella day two was much tougher for him compared to day one. Scrarcella used a Senko in the weeds and tulles to catch his fish.
“Practice was slow and I didn’t learn much so I decided to go upstream to start my first day of competition.” announced Scrarcella, “I tried topwater and other lures but once I picked up the Senko and casted it to the tulles, I caught my first keeper after an hour and a half into the tournament.”
“I would use the drop shot and Senko along the tulles to get my limit.” expressed Scrarcella, “I did end up changing to fishing the bank and caught a nice small mouth bass on a drop shot.”

“The rocks were the key; the rocks dropped quickly to deeper water and was loaded with fish.” articulated Scrarcella, “I worked that bank the rest of the day.”
“On day-two, I repeated the same thing I did on day-one; however, day-two was much tougher than day-one.” specified Scrarcella, “I only caught 3 keepers all day long with one coming just a half hour before the end of the day.”
“Having the decent day-one sure helped me with the two-day event.” pronounced Scrarcella”
Scrarcella thanked Shane LemMon and ABA for hosting such great events and all the anglers that have been supporting all these events this year.
Isac Ochoa finished in third place with 73.25” in the final ABA Ironman event with 73.25”. Ochoa used a topwater bait to catch a few keepers early and then changed up to a Senkos to fill his limit.
“The spook was what I started with to get a few keepers in the boat quickly.” defined Ochao, “It was tough to get keepers so I changed up to fishing a Senko along the tulles to fill my limit.” vocalized Ochoa, “It took me until a half hour before the end of the event to fill my limit.”

Ochoa thanked Havasu Landing for helping host this event, my family for all their support, Vivid Jigs, Woo Tungsten, Acqua Marine, and Chemehuevi Tribe for all their support.
TOC event third place finisher was Jerry Dougngsouphonh with a two-day total of 116.00”. Dougngsouphonh used a drop shot to catch his fish during the TOC event. His key was to have a 3-foot leader to entice his fish, this caused his bait to stay above the grass.
“I used a drop shotted Robo worm to catch his fish.” said Dougngsouphonh, “I had a 3’ leader that helped my bait stay above the grass so the fish could see my bait.”

“The pockets near the tulles with open grass is where I had most of my success with the drop shot.”stated Dougngsouphonh, “It helped to have deeper water where I would toss my drop shot to.”
“The bite slowed down towards mid-day so I covered some new water in search of a new location.” declared Dougngsouphonh, “I looked for areas that were similar but was not able to find and new fish.”
“I fished a rock bank with a crankbait and caught a few key fish to help me take third place.” asserted Dougngsouphonh, “It was a point that was slow sloping down.”
“I was using an Arch CMT10 mini crankbait to catch my fish.” proclaimed Dougngsouphonh, “I saw a few fish following my non-scorable smallmouth so this clued me into the crankbait bite.”
“I was using 6” Robo worm in the Margarita color.” publicized Dougngsouphonh, “I fished the South end of the lake to get my bites.”
Dougngsouphonh thanked his girlfriend for all her support and ABA for hosting great events.
