KAMAKAZEE Bait Co. Swim baits!

Post by SNACKTIME »

Last weekend a friend of mine gave me a swimbait to try out at the local lake. Kamakazee Bait Co. is producing a 6 inch paddle tail swimbait that has some devastating action in the water. I was totaly impressed with this bait. Don't know if anyone in California is stocking these things yet, so I located, contacted, and ordered some straight from Kamakazee.
Can't wait to get up to the Clear Lake this spring with these swimbaits.
Just wondering if anyone else is throwing these baits with success.

I saw a couple this last week, not on sale, but a guide was showing them to me..They are every bit as good as the basstrix in appearance..The tails look the same in size and thickness, so the should have a comparable swimming action..If I get a chance to buy some, I am going to go for it..

Both of you guys are right. The Treats swimbaits are slick. I've been throwing them awhile, and they are a treat. Kamakazee Dave is up in Emmett, Idaho. He has been making (and fishing) tubes for years, and has had the Treats Swimbaits almost as long as the other guys have had their paddle tail swimbait, but nobody talked about them.
Not to down play the other paddle tail tube type swimbaits, but if you can't get them, try Kamakazee's Treats Swimbaits, you won't be disappointed.

They've got their own site, or you can find them on my site. (sorry to sound self promoting)

Outdoorsman, a bluegill looks like a bluegill doesn't it.
Really mine is a lot different than Matt's,
It has finer detail and more tail action.

If you fish bluegill swimbaits, you've got to have the Kamakazee Bluegill as part of your arsenal. It has a different vibration in its tail than the Matt Bluegill. The Matt is great for slow rolling, but I like the Kamakazee for my sweep and wind retrieve.

Also, if you fish Clearlake, the Kamakazee Crappie is a MUST have. I used a green sharpee and marked mine a little darker to match the dark Black Crappie that roam there. Fish it around the defunct resorts up in Lucerne, and you'll never put it down.

Kamakazee makes great baits. I fell for them when my brother and I fished a team tournament up at Lake Cascade in Idaho. I nearly bought out a little ma and pa shop up there. I think it's great that guys down here are starting to find out about them.

Dave's a solid dude, and he cares for fisherman of all ages and levels.

OK. I just wanted to hear that from you Kamakazee. I should pick one up for where i fish then. Does it tear like a mattlures? Will it sit upright? Just need to know. I am a firm believer in mattlures so I'd like to know.

Outdoorsman,

It will not tear nearly as easy as the Mattlure
and the paint will last longer.
It was made for swimming not bed fishing.
It will lay on it's side at rest on the bottom.
It will stay upright at ANY speed.

The rest is up to you.

But that's a 5 pack. :D

Actually, the builder I'm using was supposed to hide the product until I get them in. I assure you they'll be a little more within budget, or at least within MAP guidelines, when I do get them.

They are awesome, I only have one left in my boat, and a small club tourney Saturday.

If you sign in your info, I'll email you when they do come in, and you can decide from there.

Thank you for looking,

Guys dont waist your money. That peice of junk "bluegill" isnt worth 5$ let alone $20. The action on them is very unrealistic, they have no action at slow speeds and they defiantly DO ROLL. Maybe if they were $5 they would be ok. As for durrability, sure they last a while becase they dont get bit   . I have had many of Matt's gills and most have caught over 20 fish before I lost them or had to retire them. You just have to put a drop of mend it or superglue wne you get a little tare. If you look at everything Kamakazee makes its a rip off of something else. There is no comparison of the two baits the Matt gills are superior in every way. Dont believe me? go buy one of each and see which one actualy gets bit.

As most people have tried and failed to get the basstrix swimbaits, I managed to get some a few months ago. Good bait, not very hearty though, very rediculous to obtain! Kamakazee on the other hand..... There are a couple of us who have thrown both baits and as of right now kamakazee hands down. So far.... they hold up better, cheaper, available, and Dave has been nothing but incredilble making sure I get what I want. Oh and by the way, fish hammer them! If you are having problems with them rolling more than likely the hook rigging is off a little. Keep messing with it until you get it right. Tony

WHY DONT YOU REALLY LIKE KAMAKAZEES BAIT. IF THEY DIDNT CATCH YOU FISH, THEN SAY THAT. BUT TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO SLAM HIS BAITS???

IF IT RIPS OFF MATT LURES AND YOU DONT AGREE WITH THE COPING OF BAITS, WHY DID YOU BUY ONE??

MAYBE I JUST READ YOUR POST WRONG, BUT IF YOU DONT LIKE HIS BAITS SAY THAT. I JUST DONT AGREE WITH SLAMMING SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HE SAID HIS BAIT WAS BIGGER AND DIFFRENT BECAUSE:

It will not tear nearly as easy as the Mattlure
and the paint will last longer.
It was made for swimming not bed fishing.
It will lay on it's side at rest on the bottom.
It will stay upright at ANY speed.

AND

The Kamakazee Bluegill is 4" long and has a larger tail.

I KNOW YOU CANT BE MAD BECAUSE OF HIS TAIL- NOT INVENTED BY MATT. IF IT WAS A WEDGE TAIL THEN YES.

iF ITS THE BODY?? I DONT GET WHAT YOU EXPECT..... MATT DID A GREAT JOB MAKING AN EXACT REPLICA OF A BLUEGILL, THEN WHEN SOMEONE TRYS TO MAKE SOMETHING TO LOOK AS GOOD???? I DONT GET IT. DOES MATT HAVE A PATENT ON THE BLUEGILL BODY?

i WOULD UNDERSTAND IF KAMAKAZEE MADE A BAIT THE SAME SIZE, SINK RATE, STAND ON ITS NOSE THEN IT WOULD BE ALITTLE FISHY..

http://www.mattlures.com/bluegillswimbait.htm
http://www.kamakazeebaitco.com/treats.php

LOOK AT THE BAITS SIDE TO SIDE
DIFFRENCES I SEE OFF THE BAT:
BOOT TAIL
TAIL
SIZE
COLOR

IN CLOSING
TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE THERES A HIDDEN AGENDA.

I GIVE MAD PROPS TO MATT, HIS BAITS ARE SICK. I HAVE NEVER USED THE KAMAKAZEE SWIMBAIT SO I DONT KNOW HOW IT SWIMS.

AGIAN THIS IS MY OPIONIN AND IF I MISSUNDERSTOOD RAY B.... iM SORRY AND I WILL TAKE THIS THREAD OFF

Ok here is the deal. The guy came on here insulting Matt's baits. He basically said that Matt’s baits wont swim right, the paint comes off and they are only for bed fishing. His whole point was to try and slam the Matt gill. I have used many of them and have never had any of these issues. First off the paint never comes off, they only run crooked when the baits are stored wrong and get crooked (like all baits do) Just because Matt's baits work great on beds doesn’t mean that is all they are for. The reason I got defensive was because of they way this guy is pushing his baits and knocking Matt's. I gave you my honest opinion. The baits do not compare. The Kamakazee bait is stiffer and needs to be fished very fast to get any action at all. It is very heavy and sinks like a rock. In its overall appearance it just does not look natural to me. Get one and hold it, and one of Matt's next to a real gill and its no contest. I have caught 20+ fish on several different Matt gills before they were destroyed or lost. I have also had 2 that got ripped up quickly. I also fish HUD’s and they are very durable but I have had a couple of them get ripped quickly too.
In my complete honest opinion the Kamakazee gills are very similar to the Storm sunfish. They are about as realistic only they cost 10X as much. I actually didn’t even buy the Kamakazee gill. One of my friends bought it for me because he knew how much I fish bluegill swimbaits. Another thing to compare is that the Matt gill will sit upright and not lay on its side. Mr. Kamakazee assumed this is only for bed fishing. Well I know many guys who will work the bait like a jig because of this feature. I did fish the K gill and like I said, it was heavy and had little action. I did not get bit. I have since given it away.
Dynasty if Kamakazee would have just mentioned his baits then I would not have replied. He did not do that instead he chose to attack Matt’s baits with IMO false claims in order to sell his. I just don’t like the way he came on here. Kamakazee has also gone on other boads doing the same thing.
Does that make sense?

At first I thought RayB was the alter ego of Matt as I recieved a slamming PM about the same time as Ray B's first post on this thread. But after reading more of Ray B's comments I can see they are not the same guy. Ray is a better speller. The one thing that is obvious is that the guy is somehow connected to Mattlures and his agenda is to knock the Kamakazee. Dave was asked a specific question relating to comparison of his product to Matt's. As any good manufacturer would, he never mentioned the competition until it was brought up. He simply answered the question posed then the attack is on. I do find it strange that the post is still up. I guess there are different rules for different folks when it comes to derogatory comments.

What was it that was said that should have us remove the post or thread Robert? Reads like a bunch of guys arguing over their favorite bluegill baits to me and I'm not sure what's wrong with that. No vulgarities that I could find. Yeah, guys are getting testy with each other and certainly there's some self promotion going on but if you read between the lines you can still glean some useful and therefore helpful information from thread. As such we've let it run. I as of yet haven't seen the Kamakazee baits but I've fished with the Matt Lures gil and liked and caught fish with it. Sounds to me like different applications for each bait so I'm not sure where the debate truly lies.

Hey Robert F, I wonder if you'd like a job as a moderator. You seem to have a persistent problem with the current crew. It isn't always so easy to decide what to cut and when we, the mods, debate over posts we generally let them stay up longer. In fact, we strive not to delete posts at all.

Guys I apreciate all the kind words and I hav stayed out of this thread up until now. Yes Robert I am a bad speller. I have no problems admitting this . I will say this, I did not like the way kamakazee was advertising his baits by attacking mine but if thats what he has to do...
You guys can make up you own minds. I dont beleive its a dificult choice as just about evey touring pro has my bluegill. Skeet, Ike, Ish, Clunn, Velvick, Howell, Evers, Mike Long, and many more, etc... I actualy had Byron call me from Amistad when they broke the tournament record and he said that just about every angler that qualified for the last day was using my gills. They even aired some footage of fish getting caught on them on Basscenter. They have also been in every major fishing magazine. I will not bash the other product. I dont need to.

Ray,

Thanks for explaining yourself. When it comes to selling your product, I don’t blame kamakazee. If I created a trout that looked like the hudd I would clam its better. You can’t fault kamakazee for having an idea, creating it, and then thinking it the best! It’s like a father telling himself my kid is better then yours. That’s just the nature of man. If I was matt I would be flattered. That means my bait is so good, people have to compare Matt’s perfection to gage the quality of there baits.
