Kill Switch Wiring on Nitro/Merc 200 EFI

Post by Scrappinjack »

Have a 1999 Nitro 896 Savage with a Merc 200EFI and want to install a lanyard kill switch. Boat already has a toggle-type switch which was factory installed and a local mechanic offered advice on wiring via this switch. Problem is, it would disable the starter but didn't kill the engine if it was already running. Anyone here have any experience with this specific configuration? It would be immensely appreciated!

You might want to try posting your question on the BBC 'Nitro' forum:

I'm pretty sure you'll find someone there that can give you some help.

Call Tracker marine the should be able to e-mail you a wiring diagram on your boat , they did mine and were very helpful .

Hey Jack,

All you need to do is wire the Black wire with a yellow stripe
through the lanyard to ground. (Black). In the main harness.

Good Luck.

Yeah, good point. I do have the Merc manual for the motor but it doesn't cover the boat-end wiring. Only installing the lanyard switch for tourney fishing and don't want to disable the existing switch. I know there's an answer that's simpler than I'm making it! :)
