Lake Almanor

Post by Backseat Tiger »

I'm heading up to Lake Almanor for the first time tomorrow for a few days and will be camping at Plumas Pines. I'm looking for any info on fishing conditions, maybe some helpful tips on what I should be using up there, I figure I might get some real answers as there are no tournaments on that lake that I know of. If bass fishing fails I guess I can fall back to trout fishing. Thanks for any info you can provide for me. Oh yeah, any good restaraunts/bars that I should check out that are on the water that I can boat to? Thanks again.

Well the fish have been shallow, I caught two nice largemouth in the "dredger pond" area up by the Chester airport on 5" senkos the other day ( picture posted in pic section). The fish seem to be mostly post spawn, there were still some smallies on beds up at the Chester end of the lake but the pollen on the water made them hard to see. I would start right around the Plumas Pines area with a popper early or rip bait if it's windy then switch up to tubes or a jig as the morning goes on.... Hope this helps, have a great time and good luck!

Hello Tyler,
You are really in luck for some quality and quantity input on Almanor as SCBA, out of Redding had their last tourny there. Pull their web site up under "clubs" here at WB. It's a detailed interesting read with limits of bass to 15lb plus bags. Simply adjust to more post spawn in areas they spoke of and you will have a great trip. Respect the wind there, it can get brutal. Enjoy! Jim M.
