Larry Viviano West Coast Bass

Post by kb »

I got a message this morning from Kelly Viviano that Larry Viviano passed away last night. He has been fighting some health issues and had been in the hospital the past few weeks.

Larry was the President of West Coast Bass.

Thoughts go out to Larry’s family.

WCB was my introduction to 2 day pro\ams when I was a youngster. I had a very positive experience with it all and have been fishing tournaments since. Every interaction I had with Larry was a positive one. My thoughts and prayers go with his family today...

Larry was more than just president of West Coast Bass.....Legend comes to mind. Developer of the shared weight formula among other innovations. Helping with the careers of Skeet Reese, Gary Dobyns, Ron Towery, Bobby Barrack, and Phil Mitsueda amongst several other outstanding anglers. His magazine West Coast Fisherman was informative, and articles concise.
A few years back Harvey Naslund of WON Bass published a history of Bass Fishing in California called A Gathering if Eagles. In it is the story of West Coast Bass.

Larry was both a mentor and friend. A nominee to the California Fishing Hall of Fame , but rejected, hurt him immensely. HIs heart and soul was for a time all Bass Fishing all the time.
FYI Larry took his own money and purchased a ton of Florida strain bass along with Dennis Lee distributing them, the ofspring of which we enjoy today.
There will be a moment of silence in honor of Larry at the Snag Proof Open this morning.
God Bless You Larry Viviano, and Thank You for all you did, my friend
