LCX 26C HD download...How?

Post by Dan Dunsford »

I need to update the program on my LCX 26C HD from 1.4 to the 1.7. My question is...what do I need to do this? I have gone to the Lowrance website and see I could download it from there. What do I use for a card reader to down load from my USB port? Is it something like the card reader I use to download photos from my digital camera? Is there a model name I need to purchase? Thanks for any assistance you guys can give me.

Yes, you have to have a SD/MMC card reader. If you have a camera that uses SD or MMC card, you can use the same card reader. Just plug it into your computer, insert the SD/MMC card w/ a min of 2MB of free space, and follow the instructions according to the Lowrance Update site ...

Installation Instructions

1. Make sure the MMC/SD card reader is properly connected to your computer (and, if necessary, that the drivers are installed).
2. Insert an MMC/SD card with at least 2 MB of free space into the MMC/SD card reader.
3. Click on the "Install Now" link above to go to the installation web page.
4. Wait for the Java web installer to download and run. Follow the Lowrance update installation instructions. If you are not sure about a step, just select the default choice. When the installer finishes you will prompted to click Finish to exit.
5. Turn your Lowrance LCX-26C HD unit off.
6. Place the MMC/SD card containing the updated operating software in the unit's MMC/SD card tray.
7. Turn your LCX-26C HD unit on. The software update will automatically install.

If your computer experiences problems with the web installer, try using a stand-alone installer. Simply choose the appropriate operating system below:
PC Win98/ME/2000/XP/2003 (7.78MB) | Mac OS X (7.83MB) | Linux (7.55MB)

Dan,

similar type of reader like you are saying. try your local lowrance dealer and see if they have the update to borrow mmc/sd card or a card reader to use for the download. If I remember correctly you can get the update directly from lowrance with a deposit and return. Call them for the specifics. On the lowrance website is LEI extras (products) on the left hand corner under products. look up your model and they have a reader for purchase. I believe I used a MMC/sd card from lowrance and returned it to them (for an 15MT update) and also borrowed the card reader for a back-up download from fisherman's warehouse in manteca.

The update's are critical for the units to run correctly. hope this helps it has been some time..
