Lipless Cranks

Post by elfish16 »

I was just a little curious as fishing a Lipless crankbait has been my favorite method ever since I remember bass fishing. Started by ripping old chrome blue/black backed Rattle Traps from the shore line to catch a LOT of bas from 5-8lbs.

What are some of everyone's favorite lipless baits? I for one love the Excalibur One knockers, 5/8 ounce in Chrome Black back. I have a couple of these from one season last year that have NO paint left on them.

Tell me some of your favorites.

All brands will work under the right conditions, but as far as favorites... If the lipless crank bite is going, I'll be tossing Jackall. A few different sizes and weights to choose from, with really good split rings and great hooks right out of the box. No tweaking them, just open the box, tie it on, cast, and wait for the thump! TL

I throw lucky craft lv 500's and rat'l traps. Those have worked the best for me.

I always preferred the Rapala Chrome and Black, but since Rapala doesn't offer the "old" colors I now use the Excalibers - Chrome Black, and Red, are my colors of choice. I am also currently trying out the sexy shad but so far it's a no go.

KVD (I think) did a video where he talked about the differences in traps.
They all have different sounds, from one loud knocker to a ton of BBs to silent.
They also have different falls, so some dive nose down, really fast, and some shimmey on the fall. The way they fall determines if you can do a rip/pause without fouling, or work them more like a jerk bait.
I don't remember where I saw the video, but I know it's out there.
