LMS 520C GPS issues

Post by fresnobassman »

My 520c is having GPS issues. It has worked fine for about 4 years but all of a sudden the cursor is flashing with "?" on it. All GPS functions are flashing on/off. Installed new antennae, all pos and neg leads have been checked and are proper and functional. Checked status and all stats are flashing. This is a stand alone unit and is not networked with any other units. Sonar works fine...any ideas short of buying another unit.

When you have a ? flashing in the cursor it means you don't have a lock on your position. Hit pages and use the left arrow to go to Status. Here you can see if the antenna is trying to lock on or if you have a problem with the antenna there will be a message indicating "GPS not responding". This means you may not have power going to the GPS antenna.

Make sure the NMEA power cord which is one of the smaller wires in the three wire power cable has a good hot and ground connection. Check the fuse also.

If you still don't have a signal then you could have a bad antenna or it may be mounted too close to the head unit causing interference. The LGC 3000 needs to be mounted at least 3 feet away from the head unit per Lowrance factory recommendations.
