For all G Loomis rod fishermen, what is your favorite rod for Carolina Rigging? I am in the market for a Carolina rig rod and was wondering which rod is suggested.
Thanks
DB
G LOOMIS CAROLINA RIG ROD - BEST MODEL?
Re: G LOOMIS CAROLINA RIG ROD - BEST MODEL?
I use a 7' heavy IMX. It is stiff enough to move around a 1oz.+ weight, and enables you to make solid hook sets with a lot of line out, while still having the tip and sensitivity needed to feel the bites. Used this rod all winter through spring for rigging and couldn't be happier. I now own another for jigs/t-rigs. I use an 8lb. flouro leader and had one break off, because I didn't retie. I don't know how it would perform with your sissy 5lb leaders though

Re: G LOOMIS CAROLINA RIG ROD - BEST MODEL?
Hey DB,
The Carolina rig is hands down one of my favorite techniques so I'll tend to use it everywhere at anytime and I usually have a rod or two on the front of the boat. I have three rods dedicated to Carolina fishing.
1) Shimano Crucial 7' 6" CRCX76 MH, 65 Power-Pro braid w/ 20lb leader, .5 -.75 oz. weight. I use this most of the time. This rod is excellent for long sweeping hoosets, it is one piece.
2) GLoomis IMX 844 7" H, 20 pound P-line XXX, 15 lb. leader w/.375 weights
3) GLoomis IMX 843 7" MH, 12 pound P-line XXX, 10 lb. leader w/.375 weights
Hope this helps
Lance

Hey DB,
I like the IMX 843 Med Heavy for lighter than an 1oz. If you are going heavy the IMX 844 Heavy is perfect. But I prefer the 843 overall! Both are 7' and lots of back bone!

Re: G LOOMIS CAROLINA RIG ROD - BEST MODEL?
Everyone has suggested a great model......However if you want the best of the best Loomis Carolina Rig rod, I would definately recommend the GLX Carolina Rig 874 7'3" Heavy.....Won't be disappointed....A little more out of the pocket...But do you mind spending extra for a good set-up? I don't....I know for sure that I like spending a little bit more....Especially w/ a brand like Loomis...They totally back up their product...They want you to have a Loomis in your hand....That's why they have such a good warranty program...
A good place to buy Loomis is www.tacklewarehouse.com... Guaranteed low prices...Match anything lower if there is..... Hope this helps.....TTYL and good fishing...Jason

I use the Okuma 7'6" MH telescopic. Its light for a big rod with tons of backbone. 1/3 the cost with a lifetime warranty. Ive caught a few fish at Diamond Valley on it.
Thump,thump.......aw there he is! Get the net!
Re: G LOOMIS CAROLINA RIG ROD - BEST MODEL?
I have the IMX MBR843 which is rated as MH power, but I'm relegating it for lighter mojo rigging flukes and senko duty. I picked up a St. Croix Avid MH (AC70MF) for frogging, and also like it for heavier C-rigging.
