I'm in the market for a new crankbait rod and was interested in the Loomis crankbait models. I throw speedtraps most of the time and rattle traps and was interested in hearing any pros or cons to this make of crankbait rods.
thanks in adavance.

Loomis crankbait rods 845
Re: Loomis crankbait rods 845
Ive been using the 783 for a few years now and its works well for most all cranks. Ive got a couple over ten on it, and got them in o.k.
Re: Loomis crankbait rods 845
I have never purchased one, but I like the rods. They are light and have a nice feel to them. A friend of mine used them for a long time and loved them. I believe he had an 845 and another model which I dont recall. With that said, you should really check out the Powell Max crankbait rods too (www.powellco.com). I have one and its awesome, not to mention cheaper than the Loomis. Very sensitive and the action is perfect. I have had alot of quality/workmanship issues w/ Loomis rods in the last 2 years, so I have quit buying them. They used to be the BEST....

Bill Cook has a Phenix X10 for sale in the classifieds for $100. Even though they burned me on the rods I sent them, I still think they are the best cranking rods I've ever felt.

Re: Loomis crankbait rods 845
Hey Rick,
I've used the Loomis 845 for the past 4 or so years throwing rattle traps and other heavier crank/rip baits on the Delta and Clear Lake. The backbone is great for ripping baits through the weeds, and the tip is light enough to let the ripbaits do their thing. I've handled big fish on it no problem (up to 9 lbs), and yes I have improvised and used it for other things too, like throwing topwater baits. I absolutely love this rod, and if I recall correctly, Gary Dobyns said that its one of the most, if not the most versitile crankin' rod ever made.
The warranty that Loomis rods has, coupled with the fact that (correct me if I'm wrong) it's the only rod company mentioned that is still made in America, and just the all out quality of product that they produce, makes their rods the best there is around. Give it a try, you'll like it, I promise.

Nah, there are still a few American made rods out there--Loomis isn't the only one. But if you don't already know it, G. Loomis is actually owned by the Japanese. Yea, the CBR845 is a great rod for Speed Traps...Andy Lippert wrote:The warranty that Loomis rods has, coupled with the fact that (correct me if I'm wrong) it's the only rod company mentioned that is still made in America
