G LOOMIS LOVERS ONLY...

Post by DB »

I have a question for all G Loomis rod fishermen.

What is your favorite model JIG STICK ? Say for 3/8 to 5/8 oz. jigs.

I use a MBR843 7"0" and am thinking about getting a MBR844 .

Bob,

I use the MBR 843 GLX for 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2. It struggles with the 3/4 and 1 oz. Fer those I use a custom built 884 from Steve Biechman.

For over a 1/2 I would get the 844! Fer under the 844 can be a little stiff. I really like the extra fast tip on the 843 fer the lighter jigs.

I like the Jig and Worm series BCR803 for 3/8oz to 1/2oz and BCR804 for 3/4 and 1oz. I am partial to GLX series and rods under 7'.

7' heavy IMX. Same rod I use for c-rig/Texas rig. Love it.

I swapped out one of my 843's fer the BCR853, biggest mistake I have ever made. Pretty much can't keep a fish on a hook with that rod :( except maybe on a spinnerbait. I gave up even trying to throw jigs on it after losing 10 fish in a row. Picked up the Good Ol' MBR843 with same jig, line...and the next 5 were in the boat. I think I need to call G.Loomis and see if they will let me trade back.

I like the MBR843GLX for rubber jigs up to 1/2 oz. I like the MBR844GLX for hula grubs.

It depends what line you're throwin. For 12lb floro or mono and 3/8 oz. jig I think you need to power one up to the 4 power mbr 844 glx. Bcr 803 glx is good too, but I tend to hook em on the inside of the mouth (tru da cheek). I own both and I'm pretty happy with both. bcr is more of an in close stick not good for long casts with 3/8 to 1/2 jigs. mbr 785 imx is hard to beat as well, a 7 feels like a 3 or 4 pounder. You can really turn those 6-7 lb fish with this rod and control the heavier jigs w/o getting snagged as often,as well as rippin off heads on the hook set. Gotta hav the Izorline Platinum too, best jig and worm line out there for the money. I don't know jack though :o

hey Bob, I use the 844 for all my 3/8 and up jigs. Works perfect. I actually have 2 of them! If you want something for 1/4oz then the 843 is a good choice. but this rod is alittle soft for the bigger jigs./

I agree that the BCR is used for fishing known close targets, ie. rocks stickups, I use my MBR's for long blind casts fishing uphill on long points. I like both models, my BCR's seem to be more sensitive to subtle bites, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

843 has worked well for me up to 3/4 oz, I need an 844 for the 1 oz stuff- fishing spider jigs and jigs on 12-15 lb. flouro - no problems with the 843 so far, but an 844 would be a better stick for even the 3/4 oz stuff IMHO- shoots, wouldn't hate it for the 1/2 oz jig- trying to cross their eyes on the hook set.

MBR784C 6'6" 12 - 20 1/4 - 1

Bob the above is my jig stick, however I would get the 7' as well. I use primarily 1/2 and 3/4oz hulas however it fishes the 3/8 - 1oz jigs great.

I prefer the stiff rod for jiggin as it suites my style!
