Low Water on Potholes Reservoir

Post by ttb31183 »

Potholes Reservoir in Washington is one of the most unique places I have ever fished. It's very diverse and home to tons of big largemouth and smallmouth. The main attraction is "the dunes" which are countless small sand islands that create a maze or cover to flip and pitch. This time of year it is 20-feet low, so all of those fish are out of that area and generally pretty stacked up in the mainlake.

I went there on Friday and caught plenty of fish on everything from deep-diving crankbaits to topwaters to Ned Rigs. Just about anything I used produced and it was quite fun. I have a tournament there this weekend and I am really looking forward to getting back out there.

I didn't catch any big ones, but had plenty of 2-3lbers to keep me busy.

With the water being so low, it is easy to adjust the map on your Navionics app to show all of the deeper humps.

Here is a before and after shot. You can see the land "appear" after adjusting the depth to -20 feet.
