Lunker Punker

Post by bruizer343 »

I got cought up in the hype. Got a 9" lunker punker. Strung it onto an okuma 7'11" w/ a 401 and 80lb braid. I fished it for an hour at sundown last night. as Im walking this lure Im thinking WTF have I done ? its so friggin big. I pulled out some of my heavy saltwater wood poppers and this friggin punker is just as big, deeper than some of them.

I'll have to admit a tad bit of anxiousness as I work the lure. I cant wait for those big female stripers.

who's fishing this beast.

I got the Jr. -- It is pleny for the rod's I currently own...... and so far it has cought me going swimming for it !!

I am the same as you -- VERY excited for the fall/winter Striper run. The bait works easier than a Vixen- and a Zara Spook by a longshot for me ! :D

You guys crack me up :-) LOL

The 9" Lunker Punker, big ? If I ever threw anything smaller, I'd feel like I was Crappie fishing :-)

I've been throwing almost nothing but big baits for 10 years now (when I'm not flipping a tiny dad or crawler on my micro-light, or sightfishing with a medium sized bluegill pattern) to the point where, if I ever tie on a normal size bass lure, it feels absolutely tiny, and it's hard for me to even feel serious about throwing it.

All in what your used to I guess....

How do you work those the lunker punkers? It looks like a spook but I hear you guys talk about waking it. I don't really see a spook as a wake bait.

Thanks

Man, I missed the boat on a lucrative business. Guys spending $60.00 bucks on shellcrackers, lunker punkers and $80.00 and up for had baits. This fishing industry is going crazy. What happened to the days of the S20 worm and carolina rigging a zoom lizard? Or going to the store and buyin a bombar 6a for 5 bucks (and I thought that was alot of money)........

Mad Maggs, If you think that is a big bait, think again. The Jr. is pretty small in the big bait world! You should look at the armageddon or the new mike shaw slammer snake wake baits. Those are big baits!

I agree. But I'm sick. At least it's towards something positive rather than whores, weed, coke, speed,X,strippers, dip, booze;etc

Not that there is anything wrong with whores&strippers

Besides laughing at my thread and stating the obvious in that a normal size bass lure seem's tiny to a Lunker Punker....... DUH.
thanks for clearing that up for me.

I dont know about the whores but strippers sound cool. I want to hire a stripper for a team partner. She could do the topless net jobs for me. She doesnt have to be able to fish. I could handle that end. I just need the entertainment value! Bruiser, I second that statement. I am also sick. I can't beleive how much I have spent on tackle in the last year (swimbait stuff especially). Anyway, its all good fun!

I'am torn by how nice some of these big lures look. Makes me wanna buy 3 of each. 1 to fish,1 to hang on a wall and 1 to put away for another junky like me for the future.

My lunker punker is gonna need a passport, it's going to mexico in august, a punker with salt. Imagine the look on the pangero's face when I start chucking a rainbow trout to boiling skipjacks.

pffffttt.

Thanks for the kind words. Just don't let my wife know how much of a sponsor she really is  Like you said it is a better addiction than other things. Now if I could only fish as well as I cook you guys would be in trouble.

Hey Bruizer, I wasn't trying to be a smartass.... Just pointing out how things that seem extreme, can start to feel completely normal if you do it enough...... and then the "once normal" stuff starts to feel abnormal.

Peace,
Fish

PS, If your going to mess with the Jr, why not just throw a magnum Spook ? They are a lot cheaper, and probably just as effective.

PS, The Hud is a great lure..... but it's too small.......

The Hook was out of the floating Shellcracker the last time I was there.....

Then buy them all at the same time !! (floating red ear and sinking Crackers and the subsurface Trout)

Game on in November-March for Striper Fishing with my family !! :D

(Some day soon- I am also gona catch a Black Bass over 2.5#'s... I can feel it in my bones. )

Hey Joe, I'll still throw the heck out of the Hud.... It's just that size-wise, it feels kind of ho-hum. Now a 10", 8oz'er..... that would be the bait ! :-)

ya Chris I hear you....I've been throwing the 10" Castaic and the 11" Super Freak and it takes a few casts to get used to the jig rod again....thing about the Lunker Punker though is using it on a shorter stout swimbait rod to walk it.
