The Food and Allergy tournament was held at Lake McClure with 49 anglers signed up for the event. The weather was a hot 103-degree, hottest day of the year. This may have been the best kayak tournament day of 2025 compared to those cold windy days. The Wu family did a great job hosting this event with tons of goodies and food available for the anglers. The anglers stated that fish were easy to come by, but the larger fish were harder to catch. Max Lee wins the event with a total of 92.75” anchored by two 5-pound fish that were caught at the same time on a walking topwater bait. You know you’re living great when you catch two fish over 20” in one cast!

“I have some history there and knew that I could win this event using topwater.” stated Lee, “So I stuck a topwater lure in my hand. I did mid stroll some but the topwater was my key for the win.”

“I targeted high spots and was able to get the fish to come up after my topwater bait.” exclaimed Lee, “As long as there was bait fish present, I was able to pull those better fish up to my walking topwater bait.”

“One key to my success was fishing main lake structure.” remarked Lee, “I would use my FFS to find bait which helped me catch the bigger size fish.”

“I had a good limit by 9:30 AM.” mentioned Lee, “I caught two 20:75” fish on one cast, one fish had the top hook and the other had the bottom hook. I knew then I had won this event.”

“After that I pretty much just started to practice fish for an event in two weeks. I ran around the lake looking.” declared Lee, “I check many other areas for more bait and fish that were working the bait.”

“It felt great to win this event. Catching two 20:75” fish in one cast sure made my day.” claimed Lee, “I never use a net, and I was lucky to land both fish. This is something I’ll never forget.”

Lee thanked Kayak City, the Wu family for hosting these events, NuCanoe, 559 Freson Bait and Tackel.

Daigo Kobayashi came in second place with a total of 86.50”. He used the mid-strolling technique to catch his fish. He focused on fry guarder fish. He fished all over the lake to find his second-place limit.

“I used a different pattern compared to what I found on Friday before the tournament.” pronounced Kobayashi, “I looked for fry guarders or single fish and used the mid-strolling technique to catch my limit.”

“I fished coves and pockets anywhere from 10-feet to 50-feet deep to catch my fish.” replied Kobayashi, “The fish were very picky, so I had to rotate my baits to find which lure they wanted.”

“I used from a small minnow to a larger Sakamata shad to catch the fish.” voiced Kobayashi, “I did catch a few on the flick shake as well.”

“You had to catch the fish on the first cast, or they wouldn’t eat.” expressed Kobayashi, “It took me all day to catch a limit and cull one fish.”

Kobayashi thanked the Wu family for hosting these events, Kayak City, NuCanoe, Pline, Major Craft, Coyote Bait and Tackle, 1st. Gen Fishing, Baitsanity, and friends and family.

Joseph Tax came in third with a total of 85.75”. He used the mid-strolling technique to catch his limit.

“I started the morning off using the FFS focusing on larger fish near rock piles in 15 to 18-feet of water.” insisted Tax, “I started off fishing a tube, jig, rip bait and a Mooch minnow.”

“I was getting a lot of followers on the Mooch minnow, but the fish would not comment.” expressed Tax, “I changed colors by adding chartreuse to the Mooch minnow.”

“I used the Albino Mooch minnow and used the spike it to add the chartreuse to the lure.” spoken Tax, “This made all the difference on the fish that would not eat my lure. I caught every fish that chased after my bait once I changed color.”

“I had my limit by 8:30 AM and never culled up after that, I probably caught over a hundred fish and a number of different baits.” explained Tax, “I caught a ton of fish on a jig that went just shy of 15.50” that didn’t help my limit. I caught them on everything, tubes, flick shake, spook. I caught around 30 fish that went 15.50” on the jig.”

“I stood up and saw a rock pile and casted my Mooch minnow by the rock and caught my biggest fish.” reported Tax, “The rip bait only caught 8” fish, which was not normal.”

“After 8:30 AM the fish that were on the rock pile disappeared and I never culled up after that.” said Tax.

Tax thanked Kayak City, Pline, 1St. Gen Fishing and most of all my lovely wife for all her support.
