The 2019 MKA Summer Splash Open is Motherlode Kayak Angler's way of welcoming the summer season and the perfect chance for you to get out and give kayak tournament fishing a try. Their mission is to provide high quality, competitive kayak fishing events on great bass fisheries with a focus on safety, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.
The tournament will be held on Lake McClure on 6/2/19. Registration will start at 4:30 AM at the Barrett's South upper parking lot (near the restrooms/fish cleaning station). Fishing will begin at safe light and continue until 1:00 PM when all anglers must check in back at the Barrett's South boat ramp. BBQ, casting contest, judging, and awards will immediately follow.
There are several divisions to add to the fun: Open Division (pedals and motors), Paddlers Division (paddles only), Masters Division (Age 50 and older), Legends Division (Age 65 and older), and Womens Division. There will be prizes for each division champion, Top 3 overall, Overall Champion, Smallest Limit, and Big Fish. A new fishing kayak will be awarded the overall event champion, the top 10% will receive a cash payout and there will be some special awards for the casting contest winners.
The weather is shaping up to be beautiful and the topwater bite should be in full swing with several days of warm weather leading up to the event. It's not too late to get signed up. Entry fee is $40 per angler (big fish included) and a $10 high roller option that can be paid at the lake.
If you have been thinking about giving kayak tournament fishing a try this would be the perfect event. It is an open event with a low entry fee and no membership fees. It is not attached to a series so you can just come out and give it a try without any further commitment.
