Mod or Deep V ?

Post by Smile_n_Jax »

It's the newbie again. So, I'm looking for a small boat in the $3 to 4k range. Very limited I know, but I don't have all that much to spend as I have to buy a truck too. So, I'm looking (almost wore out a mouse clicking on ads) and I found a couple decent Trackers in the area. Question is, what are the pros and cons of Modified vs Deep V hulls. The two I found are Deep V's. Berryessa will be my home (might even moor or park it there due to parking restrictions where I live). So, what do ya'll think?

Berryessa is often windy and the main body can get sloppy. For a big lake aluminum rig I would want a Deep V hull. You will give up a little stability but the ride will be much better. The mod v is more stable but will pound more. If you get the Mod V just try and stay away from the rough stuff.

Ive run a modified V for a very long time, and Ive run them in everything you can imagine. Out in the ocean mooching salmon, running open water duck hunting, running 12 inches of mud duck hunting, in two foot of water looking for bedding bass, and running across Berryessa in the middle of a storm. What do you want with your boat?

A mod will not be as smooth as a V in rough weather, but its still not bad in the big stuff. Ya just have to slow down a bit. With a mod, you can access much shallower water, and the shape of the boat is much more conducive to bass fishing. Gunnels arent near as high off the water.

The only advantage with the V is its not as bouncy during bad weather. Other than that, all categories go towards the modified V.

I agree 100% with steve. I have a 2005 tracker pro team 185. and love it. but however there are many many reasons why I want a new skeeter I-class..but that is enough said about that

but I love the mod V. I can get it in places where No one can go with bigger boats..(like behind the docks by sugar barge) people always give me crap about not getting a "real bass boat" but I love the tracker. if I had it my way I would like to have both the skeeter and my tracker. the nice thing about the mod V is its extremly stable. it doesnt shake. at least not like a V aluminum boat. now the skeeter..again you cant compare...but some boat is better than no boat.
fishing mostly delta I dont see many tracker guys..but then I went to sonoma and EVERY ONE has them. LOL like a tracker convention. It was cool. it was nice to feel lik you fit in.

Thanx guys. I figured the Deep V would ride better, just didn't know about the stability. So Mod V it will be. Don't plan on spending much time in rough water. :)
