C'mon Rules of the Road(water)

Post by fishercurtis »

Well spring is here and some people just don't get what the rules of the water are. I went out today for a day of fun fishin with my boys 9 & 12, another bass boat comes around the corner heading towards orwood, in Indian slough, Now I'm heading toward disco on the right side of the slough just south of disco and this guy splits me, the tulies, and a guy fishing on my right, right down the middle. Throws a wake on my deck the other guys boat fishings deck, and then flips the bird to me????? Hello stay to YOUR right. Keep us all safe.
Just a rant sorry. Worried about the safety of my kids.

had one even better. working down a point, about 20' from the end, when two guys in a ranger pull right infront of us, and completely block us off. they start fishing and then have the nerve to ask us how's it going. to ad insult to injury they caught fish.

Just imagine what I and Cooch have to deal with thru out the year. Their's places that are so bad in boating safty I don't even bother going no matter how the fishing is.

Safty First, If a fish is there, 15 seconds don't matter to him, he'll still bite.

There was an incident which occured during the CBF tournament yesterday which resulted in a boater being DQ'd for the tournament for a driving infraction... apparently ran too close to another competitor, and they filed a protest. I'm sure it was a very difficult decision for Ben and Archie to make, and probably not real easy for the guys who protested either.

Be safe and courteous out there folks... let's all live to play another day, and enjoy the time we have to spend on the water!

That is the only way a attempt to stop it will occur. Enforce the rules, DQ when needed for violations. They will play by the rules or be out. Do not allow it to slide like major sports do with drugs, etc. It will never stop nor show the younger ones the need to change. Bill K :)

Whatever happened to the idea of requiring a license to drive a boat, like a car?
If it was made a condition of getting insurance, renewing registration, etc., it would, at least, educate some people who are totally ignorant of boating rules and regs., and it would encourage Lake Police and the Coast Guard to enforce the laws with citations, instead of just giving verbal or written warnings.

idiots on the water ... I was out Saturday and fishing a point form one side heading towards the point. Another boat comes on plane and stops right on the other side of the point where I was heading. I could have spit in his boat as that's how close he was to me ... then he had the nerve to asks "how you doing?" ...

The main problem is that those who violate the rules of boating and fishing either don't know or don't care, whether they drive a fishing boat, wakeboarder, pwc or whatever. Unfortunately, these offenders don't frequent the various forums where these problems are discussed. I'm all in favor of licensing in that some people would get some education which could result in better conditions for everyone. In lieu of that the best we can do is try to keep a cool head and talk to others whenever possible. Heated arguments go nowhere.

i think the reason most people dont say anything to them on the water is those violators really dont care if they are in the wrong or not. no matter how calm and cool you might be, they get pissed because you brought up their lack of common sense and ignorance of the law.

Your right Blackdog, I was fishing in Railroad a couple years ago with my son. A wake boat came by twice. both times they came by so close that we got sprayed. The third time he came by he fell like 10' from my boat. I asked him nicely why they cant move over some so we stop getting wet. He said to me that they were hugging the bank because other boats were going the oppossit direction. I told him that they were breaking the law and that maybe this wasnt a good area to board in. He says to me well maybe its not such a good area for you ti fish in either, and who has the rights me or him. I patiently lifted my trolling motor and proceeded to go back and forth in front of them down the channel nice and slow so they couldnt keep up enough speed to keep him up. The more I thought about it, even though I was frustraited, they did have just as much right to be there as I did. Just part of fishing the Delta.

Couple weeks ago fishing a tourney, and me and my partner are jumping from point to point looking for fish. We come up to this point, and theres a boat heading away from the point down the bank about 50 yards from the point. We look at him going in the other direction, and decide to jump on the point. No sooner then we do he turns around, and come toward us. As soon as he gets close he says "Are you kidding me?" GMAFB me, and my partner are all about courtesy. We told him the spots all his, and my partner ran the motor through it LMAO!! Two wrongs don't make a right, but if your gonna be a dick on the water be prepared to get it right back...

I saw something this last weekend that I have rarely ever seen on the Delta..Not once or twice, but full six different big wake type cruisers slowing down as they approached the boat I was fishing in and not throwing us onto the shore..It is always nice to see some people having respect for others..

Mac, I have had more respect from wakeboards, water skiers and cruisers out on the river then from Bass Boats....just my experiance. If I see a boat fishing I will slow down or go on the other side of the channel. We are all out there for the same reason to enjoy a day of fishing. (Well unless its G-man then VROOOM)
