Motorguide t-motor Help / Battery charger

Post by Dixievx »

Hi all,
I am having an issue with my trolling motor... I have an 82 pd trust MotorGuide . Im not certain if it is my Trolling motor itself, the connections, or the battery charger?
First let me say I have an 08' Ranger 178vx...
I plug in my charger everytime, as soon as I put the Boat back in the garage each time out. Never had an issue just unplug and go each weekend.
Last week around Wednesday, I checked the boat in garage and noticed I didnt have my 3 single green lights going across my Battery 3 bank charger to let me know it was fully charged. What I saw was the first light Green, the second set had 3 red lights blinking, and the last had a single green.
I unplugged the boat.
Took the boat out Saturday morning and yes you guessed it almost no power .
Stilled fished though....
Well I put the boat back in the garage and plugged her back in...
Went out there at lunch today and saw the same thing
Green Single Light , 3 red blinking lights , Green single light
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I appreciate all the help in advance beleive me...
Chasing breaking fish is a bit tough with no t-motor ...
Thanks
Brian

Trace the wire bank with 3 blinking lights to the alleged dead battery. Disconnect and separate the leads to prevent spark or potential shock. Reference the pos/neg cables. Disconnect the leads to the known good battery, separating and referencing the leads again. Connect first bank leads to known good battery. If it still blinks with 3 lights, the problem is the charger. If the light goes and stays green, the first battery you disconnected is dead.

Hope this helps.

I had this same problem. Found a slightly corroded connection on one of the battery charger connections. It doesn't take much to screw it up. Cleaned connections , OK now.
