A strong, cold winter storm will bring major to extreme impacts for the foothills & mountains today - Friday. Significant snow accumulations down to 1,000 feet elevation will cause major issues to travel & infrastructure. The heaviest snow during this event will be later Thursday - Friday with showery conditions today - Thursday morning. Snow levels will be 1,000-2,000 feet, down to ~500 feet to the northern Sacramento Valley floor early Thursday morning & Thursday night - Friday morning.

Gusty winds will accompany this storm tomorrow - Friday. Strongest winds will be tomorrow afternoon - Friday morning with Valley gusts up to 35-45 mph & mountain gusts up to 45-55 mph. These winds + heavy snow could cause downed trees & local power outages in the foothills.

In terms of rain, impacts are expected to be minimal. Scattered showers today - tomorrow will become more widespread tomorrow night - early Friday. Thunderstorms in the Valley, foothills, & mountains could also produce small accumulating hail & heavy snow above 1,000 feet.

Cold temperatures will accompany this weather system. Daytime highs in the Valley will only reach the upper 40s to low 50s tomorrow - Friday with morning lows in the 30s through Sunday morning.
