Mussel Dog Rules for Won Bass
April 4th-April 9th
Greeting Anglers!
Welcome to historic Clear Lake! We want to welcome you to the oldest lake in North America, and one of the world’s top bass fishing destinations! This year we have teamed up with Mussel Dogs to provide you all with a quick and precise canine inspection prior to blast-off-day! Here are our guidelines to make sure you have an easy time at the ramps and your way to help keep Clear Lake clear of invasive mussels:
-The Mussel dog team will be available in Lakeport, at Library Park from April 4th-April 9th from 6:00am-1:00pm
-All out of county tournament participants will need to have their boat inspected by our mussel dog team prior to April 9th (blast off day). Preferably, we would like you to have your boat inspected by them as soon as possible.
-If you are coming into Lake County prior to April 4th, before our mussel dog team is available, you are still able to have your boat screened/inspected by one of our vendors or ramp monitors. They will make sure your boat is Clean Drained and Dry, you then will purchase the April Lake County Mussel Sticker for $20 and will be free to launch your boat at any public ramp. BUT, you will still be required to have your boat inspected by the mussel dog team before April 9th. This ensures that your boat is confirmed safe, and on blas off day, you will be able to launch your boat and park your trailer without holding up a line waiting for an inspection from our staff at the ramps.
-Resident boaters that are in the tournament, if you only keep your boat in Clear Lake, you can get a full inspection from our ramp monitors and use the inspection form from them when you blast off for the tournament, this can be used instead of the canine inspection.
If you have any questions at all, please contact the Invasive Species Prevention Technician, Corey Hustead, to ask any question you have. His number and email are: 707-530-5045 corey.hustead@lakecountyca.gov
Thank you all for your participation in keeping Clear Lake safe from invasive mussels, and best of luck in the tournament!
Thank you to our partners at the California Parks Department of Boating and Waterways for supporting this message!

The funniest part is watching all these little dog and pony shows dwindle into obscurity as things go right back to business as usual.

With the lakes throughout Kaliforniastan going to 30 day time outs and running through hoop after hoop to just go fishing they will only hurt the economy and any type of allure this state has left. This state continues to put the screws to hunters and fisherman after we continue to play their games. The numbers on hunting and fishing license falling each year the numbers don’t lie. I’m still trying to figure out when they start hitting the Chinese boats that brought this here and how they will police them, I’m guessing that’s a bigger long shot. Any guesses on how long Oroville and Shasta fall to this also. That should lock everyone down into one lake to recreate on.
