I am new to california and in dire need of bass fishing

I moved to monterey, ca from arlington, tx about 6 months ago. I really had no idea of the bass fishing potential here in california!!! Thing is i have no idea where to start, what lakes are closest to monterey, what baits to use and not to use. Any tips at all would be greatly appreciated

I'll be bringing my rod 'n reals and tackle down beginning of july.

Im not from that area but what you can do is go to your local tackle shop thier they can get you in the right direction you can also go to lakes and reports links that wil help you too.

I live in Salinas, about 20-25 mins from Monterey. We have an array of awesome bass fisheries real close to us. Coyote, Nacimiento, San Antonio and Anderson Lake just to name a few. I'd be glad to get you out on the water and show you around. I have a boat, whats your schedule like?

My question is how did you afford a place here in Monterey,where i work.If you dont have a boat i would suggest San Justo between San Juan Batista and Holister.About a forty minute drive from Monterey.They have small rental boat's and it is electric motor only.The bite over there right now is off the hook.

You could also fish lake Elastero right in downtown Monterey but the stuff might catch may kill you. Also we have some really good barred purch fishing here off the surf.Great eating fish.

8-3:30 weekdays i got classes, occasional mandatory activities on the weekends as well, but most of the time i'm free to do whatever on the weekends. sadly my truck is back in texas with my father still so no reason for buying a boat

Since i realized that my love is out here in cali, which up until now has been pretty boring, i can start saving up my cash for something worth buying, lots and lots of fishing tackle n gear.

As toadhunter said there are some pretty awesome lakes within 2 hours of Monterey. There always seems to be someone offering a back seat for a day of fishing an they are great guys that know the area, connect with one of us and i'm sure we could get you out and on some fish.

about your own backyard of Monterey Bay....Salmon, Rockfish, Albacore!!! Nice change of pace from the lakes when they get loaded w/ skiiers during the summer.

I went out and spent about 300 bux on fishing gear last weekend, broke as piss till next friday and i'm planning on going on a camping trip. Was wondering if anyone had any tips on which lake to go to that me and a group of uddies can camp at and have a good time "close" by

You can camp at Coyote Lake. It's probably the closest.
