New LMS-480 coming on board - which chip (chips?) do I need?

Post by Max »

I'm looking forward to enjoying the advantages of GPS plus mapping but am a bit overwhelmed as to my choices. I fish mostly the delta, clearlake, folsom, oroville, Berryessa, Collins and Amador. Freedom Maps, Hotspots, or Navionics??? Thanks a bunch for any help.

Which Navionics? Premium Lake Maps or Hotmaps USA Lake Maps? How are you liking the 480?

I have two chips, one for the delta and one for lakes.

The delta one is the NauticPath chip from Lowrance:
http://www.lowrance.com/Mapping/NauticPath/default.asp

The lakes one is the Fishing Hot Spots map from Lowrance:
http://www.lowrance.com/Mapping/FHSelite/west.asp

Both of these chips show great detail, the lakes one has contours for depth, the Delta one is wow ... superb detail plus tide info as well.

Only issue is that the Fishing Hot Spots map does not have all the lakes I fish (missing Oroville and a few others). But the ones that they do have are great!!

Hey MrSkeeter!

Hey MrSkeeter! I used my NauticPath card in my LMS332C on the Delta for the first time last weekend. I also have the Navionics Hotmaps Premium card for the west, but wanted the NauticPath for the Delta because it shows tides.

I liked the NauticPath card, but was a little frustrated because I could not get it to show the names of the sloughs, rivers, etc. Do you know if it has this capability? I played around with the map settings a bit on the water, but could not figure it out. I'm planning to play with it at home some more this weekend and maybe call Lowrance next week, but I'd appreciate it if you could shed some light on this for me.

Thanks!

Are these other chip you just mentioned better than the westcoast Freedom Maps chip ? I've got the Freedom Map in my LMS-480 and thought it was pretty good. Are there ones better ?? I may need a new chip :)
